This file contains the following sections: o Installation & Operating Requirements o Memory & Disk Space Requirements o Internet Browser Requirements o FLEXlm Software Requirements o Installing the Software For information regarding general and platform-specific issues and recommendations, as well as EDA interfaces information, please refer to the Quartus II Software Release Notes available on the Altera Web Site at the following URL: http://www.altera.com/literature/lit-qts.html#release_notes Installation & Operating Requirements ===================================== Altera recommends the following system configuration: - Pentium II 400 with 512-MB system memory (faster systems give better software performance) - SVGA monitor - CD-ROM drive - Serial port (or USB port if using Windows 98 or Windows 2000) for the MasterBlaster(TM) communications cable - Parallel port for use with the ByteBlasterMV(TM) download cable - TCP/IP networking protocol installed - Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later, or Windows 98 - Internet Explorer 5.0 or later Memory & Disk Space Requirements ================================ A full installation of the Quartus II software version 2.1 requires approximately 800 MB of available disk space on the drive or partition where you are installing the Quartus II software and an additional 5.2 MB on the drive containing your system directory. In the Control Panel window, double-click the System Control Panel icon. 2. Click the Performance tab. 3. Click Change. 4. Select the drive you want to use for virtual memory. 5. Increase the values in the Initial Size and Maximum Size boxes. 6. Click Set. 7. Click OK. You must restart your computer for the new settings to take effect. Windows 2000 1. In the Control Panel window, double-click the System Control Panel icon. 2. Click the Advanced tab. 3. Click Performance Options. 4. Click Change. 5. Select the drive you want to use for virtual memory. 6. Increase the values in the Initial Size and Maximum Size boxes. 7. Click Set. 8. Click OK. You must restart your computer for the new settings to take effect. Windows 98 1. In the Control Panel window, double-click the System Control Panel icon. 2. Click the Performance tab. 3. Click Virtual Memory. 4. Select 'Let me specify my own virtual memory settings'. 5. Select the drive you want to use for virtual memory. 6. Increase the values in the Minimum and Maximum boxes. 7. Click OK. You must restart your computer for the new settings to take effect. Internet Browser Requirements ============================= The PC version of the Quartus II software requires Internet Explorer software version 5.0 or later to function correctly. If you have Internet Explorer version 3.x, the Quartus II software can run, but online Help is not available. If you do not have Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later, please install Internet Explorer before running the Quartus II software. It is not necessary to make the Internet Explorer browser your default browser in order for all the Quartus II software features to function. However, you may need to configure the Internet Explorer software to work with your company network. For example, you may need to configure for a dial-up connection or for a proxy server. FLEXlm Software Requirements ============================ The Quartus II software uses the FLEXlm license server software to support network (multiuser) licensing. If it is not installed, the Quartus II installation process installs it automatically. However, if you already have FLEXlm license server software installed for an application other than the Quartus II or MAX+PLUS(R) II software, you should verify that the version is 6.0k or later for Windows NT servers and 6.0i or later for UNIX servers. Installing the Software ======================= To install the Quartus II software, follow these steps: 1. Insert the Quartus II CD into your CD-ROM drive. The Quartus II Setup program window appears automatically. 2. Click the Install Quartus II Software button. The Setup program starts automatically and guides you through the installation process. or: If the Setup program is not already running, you can start it manually. Choose Run from the Start menu, type the following command, and click OK: :\install.exe The Setup program installs the Quartus II software on your computer. If necessary, you can rerun the Setup program to install additional features. 3. If necessary, obtain a license file from the Licensing section of the Altera web site at http://www.altera.com.
