topic More information on PIII counters? in Analyzers

The info on P4 counters is quite nice -- is there anywhere I can get such info on PIII counters? I've checked all of the hardware manuals I can get my hands on, but the descriptions are not extremely clear.

If anyone knows, here are some particular questions, the answers to which will at least get me started (if there is a forum for these questions, please let me know):

1. A 'highly correlated' counter is correlated to what,
exactly? (e.g. 'L2 Cache Request Misses (highly
correlated)')

2. Is there a way to count the number of D-TLB misses?
I assume that 'External Bus Memory References'
includes I- and D-TLB misses (including PDE and PTE)
and L2 misses, but it is not clear what else this
counter tallies.

I am perfectly happy with the response 'RTFM', as long as
it is included with a pointer to the right one. :-)

BTW: I am using Redhat 7.3, with some components
"borrowed" from 8.0. (the GNU compilers, in
particular).

Cheers,
Demian M. Nave

Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
dnave@psc.edu
