Fedora* 17 is supported for VTune(TM) Amplifier XE 2013 U2.
However Fedora 17 kernel version is 3.3, and your kernel version is 3.6 - I suppose that this kernel version hasn't been tested (supported) yet.

Funny comment. Release notes say that Fedora 16 and 17 are supported without stating any restrictions on the kernel version. In addition, the software verifies that the hardware and software are usable by VTune before installing VTune.

I now must decide what to do. My alternatives are 1) download Fedora sources for 3.6 and compile the drivers, 2) find Fedora 17 version 3.3 and download that, or 3) abandon VTune. There is nothing else like VTune; so, option 3 is a non-starter. I'm left with options 1 and 2. Both are time sinks and unproductive activities; consequently, both options are unpalatable. For a productivity and performance tool, VTune installation leaves something to be desired. Intel's VTune developers should read Donald A. Norman's The Design of Everyday Things.

I wiped the disk and installed Fedora 17 3.3.4-5.fc17.x86_64. I disabled nmi_watchdog by writing a zero to the pseudo device. I profiled a profiled a pid (Firefox). VTune reports that the "Analysis is completed successfully"; nevertheless, VTune "Failed to finalize the result. The result you are opening is empty. This may be causd by an error during data collection. Try to re-run the analysis." I attempt to Re-resolve. An addidtional warning appears on the screen: "Cannot finalize the result without raw data. The result you are opening does not contain raw collector data and cannot be finalized. You might have collected the result with 'Remove raw collector data after resolve the result' option set in your preferences. Resolution will be skipped now and existing data will be shown." I did not edit File > Options > General to change the default setting and this setting is NOT selected.

I've looked at the conents of the projects directory at the test that I ran. The data directory is empty. The archive, config, and sqlite-db directories have context.

I discovered an assertion error but cannot tell whether it is the root cause of the problem or associated with the original problem. After being presented with the error, "Cannot finalize the result without raw data," I clicked "OK" rather than click "Cancel" and a window popped up, "Intel VTune Amplifier caused an assertion failure." The first four lines read:
[Assertion]
Expression: m_productQueryLibrary
File: vcs/dicerengine/src/core/results_impl.cpp
Line: 694
I do not know if this is a red herring. This report was sent to Intel.

Needless to say, VTune is not working....

I would like it to work so that I can recommend purchasing the product.

Check these steps after installing the product:

1. Are you sure that you use latest Update 2?
Intel(R) VTune(TM) Amplifier XE 2013 (build 253325)
2. # lsmod | grep sep3
sep3_8 63630 0
# lsmod | grep pax
pax 4024 0

3. # amplxe-cl -collect lightweight-hotspots -duration 60 -r /tmp -- firefox
It seemed OK to successfully collected performance data on my side.

4. # amplxe-cl -report hotspots -filter module=firefox

At step 3, ensure that you have enough disk space to store raw data, my case "/tmp". It's OK to send report to Intel if you still have this problem, maybe other root-cause.

Did you install OS in Virtual Machine? If this was the case, PMU resource lightweight-hotspots depends on will be invisible in your OS, You may try hotspots instead, such as
amplxe-cl -collect hotspots -duration 60 -r /tmp/r000hs -- firefox

If it was not the case, you still can use
amplxe-cl -collect lightweight-hotspots -duration 60 -r /tmp/r001lh -- firefox
Please go https://premier.intel.com to submit a ticket for investigating, with result directory i.e. r001lh.zip, also use

I could not make it work with Linux kernel 3.3. The assistance from Intel to resolve the issues proved of no benefit. As much as I would like to use Vtune, getting it to run under Lunix is a sucking black hole. I have better things to do with my time than debugging a poor implementation of Vtune that is poorly or incorrectly documented. It is much easier to run a version for Windows. I have experience in a previous life running Vtune under Linux and it worked flawlessly. This particular version just seems to lack robustness, appropriate documentation, and support. The earlier versions for Windows and Linux that I used never required support. That says something about this release compared with earlier ones.

Based on your post 10/26/2012 -
[ My alternatives are 1) download Fedora sources for 3.6 and compile the drivers, 2) find Fedora 17 version 3.3 and download that ...]
Even you built/installed drivers successfully but source version v3.6 was used- can you use v3.3 to build drivers?
If it still doesn't work, can you do:
1. export AMPLXE_DEBUG=y
(ensure nmi watch dog is disabled)
2. amplxe-cl -collect lightweight-hotspots -duration 60 -r /tmp/r000lh -- firefox

Please attach zipped r000lh directory for investigating. Thank you.

Hi,
I've been hit by this issue. Short googling showed that Arch Linux guys have short doc how to deal with this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VTune#kmap_atomic_and_kunmap_atomic_deprecated
I've applied their patch and I'm successfully using VTune 2013 on

Thank you. It seems to disable KM_NMI / enable KM_IRQ0 in VTSSP code in v3.6 kernel, there is no same issue in v3.3 kernel?

By the way, disable NMI Watchdog timer before doing Event-based sampling:

[root@snb01 ~]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog 1

[root@snb01 ~]# echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog

[root@snb01 ~]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog

0

I suppose that this kernel version hasn't been tested (supported) yet too :)
