Arc a770 DirectX 12 Fortnite freeze

Hi all,

searching the forum gave me no hints.

My issue is PC freeze during gameplay in Fortnite using DX12.

Several test executed.

1) test RAM with Windows 11 embedded tool - PASS

2) fresh total reinstall of Windows 11/Intel ARC Drivers/Fortnite

3) check every single drivers is the latest

4) Windows is constantly updated

Fortnite give two other drivers alternatives, DX11 and "Game performance". They works without crashing but performance are very lower than DX12 drivers.

Current Intel Arc driver: 31.0.101.5333 used with stock options

S.O. :Windows 11 Pro 23H2 updated

HW list:

MOBO: MSI B760M gaming plus wifi (MS-7D99)
CPU: Intel Core i7-12700F
GPU: ASRock Arc A770
RAM: Kingston KF548C38-16 DDR5-4800 - 4x16Gb
SSD: Kingston SNV2S1000G

Google and Youtube gave me no useful hints

Any help is really welcome because i'm near to give up and come back to my old nvidia GTX 1660 five years old that works fine. Arc 770 without DX12 isn't faster than GTX 1660.

Hello AndreaRighe,

Just to confirm: is the entire computer freezing when you play Fortnite - meaning that you have to do a hard reboot - or is just the game freezing?

Can you also check if there are any logs generated by the game and share them with me? For more instructions check this site: https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/how-to-get-your-fortnite-logs/682382

We will use all this information to attempt to reproduce this issue in our test lab.

Hi RamyerM and thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately i gave up with my Arc A770, that now sleep in its original box, and i bought an AMD RX7800xt.

But a new behavior of my PC gave me an useful hints. With the brand new GPU my PC still freeze!

So I understood than GPU wasn't the issue. Finally I found that a cable connecting GPU to the motherboard's slot was causing the PC's freeze. With the old GTX 1660 it worked fine, but with the Arc a770 and the AMD RX7800XT it didn't.

My Arc a770 will find a new player soon.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Kudos for your hard work figuring out the cause of the freezing issue! Out of curiosity as this may help other users facing a similar issue, which cable are you talking about? Is it a PCIe Riser cable?

I am sorry to hear that you are not keeping the A770 GPU, hopefully you can reconsider it since the GPU seems to be working fine. If you need any further help Intel Support staff will be here to help you!

i'm glad to help other customers, and to say you i decided to build a new gaming PC with my Arc a770 .

My former cable, recycled from a previous gaming PC, was a glotrends PCIe 3.0 x16 300mm long.
