(Suggestion) Find out why Native ASPM is not working.

Hello. I bought A770 a month ago and it has been consuming a lot of power at idle and I haven't been able to eat during that time.

ASPM L1 was also useless.

I found out the cause by chance. The reason is HAGS.

Most of the ARC users probably used GeForce graphics cards. GeForce users enabled HAGS. However, ARC does not support HAGS. You must disable HAGS.

Here's how to disable HAGS:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
Change the value of HwSchMode to 1 or delete it.

After that ASPM L1 starts working.

Is what I tested reproducible? I think this method is correct. If reproducible, can you modify that registry value when installing the driver?

Thank you for providing this suggestion to us. We attempted to reproduce the situation on our end using a system with an i7-13700K processor, an Arc A770 16GB graphics card, and Arc driver 101.5972. Please see the results of our replication below:

First, we checked the power consumption of the Arc A770 16GB which by default it does not have HwSchMode in the registry, which resulted in a power consumption of 37 watts.

Then, we added the HwSchMode to the registry, which increased the power consumption by one watt to 38 watts.

Finally, we removed the HwSchMode from the registry and followed the “High Power Consumption when Intel® Arc™ Graphics Card is Idle” article, resulting in a power consumption of 22 watts.
