Fusion 360 Crashes - Lenovo Ideapad 5i Pro - Intel Arc A370M Graphics

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get Fusion 360 reliably working with current Intel Arc 370M Graphics drivers?

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad 5i Pro with Intel Arc A370 Graphics for a couple of years now.

Whenever I use Fusion 360 the application will eventually hang and crash, or my system will get a BSOD. The issue usually occurs after about 2 minutes of inactivity. If I'm actively using the application, it works fine. The issue only occurs after a couple minutes when I switch to another application or walk away from the PC. This has been an issue for as long as I've had the system, and I would really like to get it resolved.

I just re-installed Windows 11 home with all the latest updates and have only installed the Fusion 360 application and the latest Arc drivers, but the issue continues.

It has something to do with the video drivers, because I have an old version of the Arc drivers from 2022, and whenever I install those drivers it works fine. However, whenever I use the latest drivers available from Lenovo (2023), or the most recent drivers from intel, Fusion 360 crashes.

I would be fine with using the old drivers, but windows continues to update the drivers, and I need to repeatedly re-install the old drivers.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this, and make this system more reliable?

Hello Fritzycat,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'd be happy to assist you further with this matter. I have a few questions related to your concerns. Could you please answer the following:

Did you recently use Fusion 360 on this laptop? If not, do you remember when the issue first occurred?

Have you made any changes, either software or hardware, before the issue occurred?

Is your BIOS currently up to date?

When updating the driver, did you choose the custom installation and check the clean installation option?

Have you checked if the issue also occurs with other applications (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit)?

When you reinstalled Windows 11, did you try using Fusion 360 without installing the Intel or Lenovo graphics driver? If yes, did the issue still occur?

Are you using Fusion 360 for modeling/designing, rendering, or both?

Also, to better understand your entire system information, please use the System Support Utility (SSU). This will generate a text file that compiles all your system information. You can follow this link for instructions and send the text file here: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility

Lastly, since you've experienced a BSOD, could you please reproduce the issue and collect a dump file so I can analyze it? Additionally, once the issue occurs again, please go to Event Viewer and take a screenshot of the error. For instructions on collecting the dump file, please follow this link and refer to the section on Crashing/BSOD: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Need-help-Reporting-a-bug-or-issue-with-Arc-GPU-PLEASE-READ-THIS/td-p/1494429

Best regards,

Dhanniel M.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Dhanniel,

Thank you for your assistance with the questions and following up.

Quick answers to your questions:

Did you recently use Fusion 360 on this laptop? If not, do you remember when the issue first occurred?
To my recollection, I've never been able to successfully use Fusion 360 on this laptop without reverting to old drivers (these drivers pre-date the drivers my laptop was delivered with). All other newer Lenovo and Intel drivers I have tried also have the issue. Periodic updates to Fusion 360 over the years have not resolved the issue either.

The WORKING driver is:
Intel(R) Arc(TM) A370M Graphics
Date: 7/7/2022
Version: 30.0.101.1747

Have you made any changes, either software or hardware, before the issue occurred?
No changes were made.

Is your BIOS currently up to date?
BIOS Version/Date: LENOVO J5CN37WW, 9/11/2024
This is the most current BIOS

When updating the driver, did you choose the custom installation and check the clean installation option?
I have attempted with and without selecting the clean installation option. I still have the same issue.
I re-install the old version of the driver by installing the iigd_dch_d.inf file and then selecting the driver from the list of installed drivers.

Have you checked if the issue also occurs with other applications (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit)?
I have used SketchUp and have had no issues. I have not used AutoCAD or Revit on this device

When you reinstalled Windows 11, did you try using Fusion 360 without installing the Intel or Lenovo graphics driver? If yes, did the issue still occur?
I tried using Fusion 360 with the drivers that were installed automatically by windows (after running Windows Update and rebooting). If I recall, these were the same as the latest drivers available on the Lenovo Support site. I believe it was version: 30.0.101.4502

Are you using Fusion 360 for modeling/designing, rendering, or both?
I'm using it for modeling. However, I don't need to be in any particular environment, or performing any specific function to cause the crash. If I just leave the application alone for a couple minutes (don't interact with it at all) then it will simply crash. And occasionally I'll get a BSOD too.

I'll have some time this weekend to work on the issue and provide the additional diagnostic information then.

Thank you for your time and willingness to help

-Fritz
