New B580 just arrived today. Was able to snag one with a PSU combo on newegg. The Intel limited edition one. I put it all in my new gaming PC I've built. Gaming monitor is not new, got it around 2020, is Acer RX241Y 24 inch monitor that has HDR and Freesync (both features work with my Xbox Series X)

I tested just fortnite so far and it performed great, pubg having server maintenance of course <LI-EMOJI id="lia_slightly-smiling-face" title=":slightly_smiling_face:"></LI-EMOJI>

Didn't find anything in searches here for this brand of monitor and problem. HDR was working with a different GPU (RTX1080) a friend let me borrow before this arrived. I went into windows where it normally lets you enable HDR and VRR and both say same thing as the Intel Graphics Software app, that they can't be enabled due to being not supported.

Tried both DP (monitor only goes to 1.2), and HDMI to enable either feature. I'm using HDMI (2.0) right now.

Monitor manual says this (it has 3 ports):

DP(1.2):1920x1080 supports up to 144Hz in normal mode (supports to 165Hz in
overclocking mode),also supports FreeSync and HDR function.
HDMI(2.0):1920x1080 supports up to 144Hz in normal mode (supports to 165Hz in
overclocking mode),also supports FreeSync and HDR function.
HDMI(2.0):1920x1080 supports up to 144Hz in normal mode (supports to 165Hz in
overclocking mode),also supports FreeSync and HDR function.

Including SSU

FYI, 120hz works fine when I tell windows to use that instead of 60. So I've changed to that for now. I also finally disabled the onboard video in bios, but that hasn't helped making VRR or HDR show as supported.

Hello JoshB580,

Thank you for raising this issue with the Intel community. For me to better understand your concern, kindly create a report for the Intel Graphics Driver and attach the file here for me to check it, or you may download Intel Graphics Command Center and generate the report using the application. Follow the steps below to generate the report using IGCC.

Step 1: Open the Intel Graphics Command Center.

Windows Start Menu Method: From the Windows Start Menu, search for Intel Graphics Command Center. Double-click the Intel® Graphics Command Center icon.

Hotkey Method: Press Ctrl + Alt + F1 to directly open up the application.

Step 2: Locate and save the graphics driver report.

Navigate to the Support tab.

Select System Diagnostic

Click Generate Report

Select Save and name the output file.

Step 3: Upload the graphics driver report to an email form (or other).

Open the text file you just saved.

Press the Ctrl+A keys to highlight all text (click into the text if you have not already).

Press the Ctrl+C keys to copy the highlighted text.

Return to the email form in your web browser. Click inside the box below the field. A graphics diagnostic report can be pasted into the space below.

Press the CTRL keys to paste the contents of the text into that space.

The diagnostic report is now displayed in the form.

Regards,

Each monitor communicates its capabilities to the graphics drivers via Extended Display Identification Data (EDID). After analysis, the raw EDID included in the diagnostic report shows the following:

It doesn't seem to me that there is an error here. However, when I apply this raw EDID to my Iris Xe with driver 32.0.101.6559, I can't enable HDR either. I couldn't find a solution by varying the parameters. On the other hand, HDR can be enabled on an AMD Radeon RX 7600. It can't be due to the video bandwidth, because this is limited by the monitor, not the Arc B580.

So it seems to me that this is a case for the Intel graphics driver team to check HDR interoperability with this monitor (or the EDID).

As far as I can tell, the monitor "only" supports AMD FreeSync, not VESA AdaptiveSync. Although technologically the same, the messages on the DP AUX channel are different. Intel graphics cards only support VESA AdaptiveSync or HDMI VRR over HDMI 2.1, which this monitor does not have.

Interesting thanks for the added knowledge! I didn't realize there's so many VRR standards, I thought it was already noisy with having AMD and Nvidia with their own and now this is a third (or 4th too?) I hadn't heard of.

I've got windows set to 120hz and I guess I'm not missing out on much with that at least working (144 not an option strangely but would I be able to tell the difference...)

The HDR is what is left then to hopefully get.

JohnM - so I understand after MUC explained it above that ARC B580 doesn't support nvidia freesync premium - which is what this monitor does.

With a displayport or hdmi cables I'm able to do 144hz manually just fine so I can ignore VRR, not sure the benefits really of it if I can still do 144hz all of the time, maybe less power when not needed or something?

I'm sticking to displayport for now.

How about HDR? I'd love to have HDR since this monitor supports it.

I figured out the VRR - IT WORKS!!!

I have no idea how I did it, I think by going into the "Intel Graphics Software" app and playing with the drop down menu or something, as well as turning on my monitors VRR onscreen counter - I am now able to use VRR in Windows with this monitor.

The only thing left that I wish worked was HDR - but for now I was able to go into the "Intel Graphics Software" app and have it do 10bit color instead of 8. Windows couldn't change it but this app could for the color bits in that same section called Display.

Now framerate doesn't appear locked all the time, if I'm looking at the desktop it goes rests at 72, if I've got a browser up it goes to 144 and sometimes inbetween depending on what the mouse is doing etc.

Hello JoshB580,

Thank you for your patience. I tested the issue using an Acer Nitro VG280K, and the HDR option functioned correctly. It appears there may be a compatibility issue with your ACER RX241Y monitor. Please note that the Arc B580 is not compatible with all displays. Our developer team is currently investigating this issue. You might also consider reporting this to ACER so they can collaborate with Intel to address the problem if needed.

Regards,

John Sergio M.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Yes I did! I checked into acer support and saw that although they do not support products past the warranty period, they have community forums so I posted the situation there (yesterday I believe) and had a few replies but so far nothing on the mark.

Here is the post there: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/1329224

Hello JoshB580,

I apologize if posting in the Acer community hasn't resolved the issue you're facing. Unfortunately, there seems to be a compatibility issue between your monitor and the B580. I hope you understand.

Regards,

John Sergio M.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Was worth a shot, maybe something will come of it if I'm not alone and someone else notices and has some insight.

My hope is that the compatibility issue is in software and not hardware, because that can be fixed in time. So if there's anything I can test, collect etc let me know I'd love to help. I have a technical background so I can do anything with good instructions as far as diagnostics go.

I'm going to open a new thread since the title isn't accurate anymore since VRR works. Just tested and with the driver that came out yesterday 6631, HDR still shows disabled in intel graphics software and in windows display settings , when my monitor has it turned on in its settings.
