topic Updates on new drivers for HP Laptop 15s-dy3xxx? in Intel® Arc™ Discrete Graphics

My laptop's manufacturer hasn't provided me any updates since almost 1.8(or 2023) years, can I use the drivers provided by Intel Driver & Support Assistant? I'm not sure about using them and I get screen artifacting sometimes while playing games(eg: mc), it didnt happen when the driver was newly released. Please provide me with updates. Also, my iGPU is UHD Graphics Xe G4 48EU(not sure) and the name of the processor is i3-1125G4.

Thanks for any updates.

The answer is... Maybe. It's complicated...

If your manufacturer is modifying the Intel packages to provide some special feature(s) - hotkeys, etc. - then installing the generic drivers from Intel, regardless of whether you are downloading and installing them manually or doing it semi-automatically via iDSA, can cause these special feature(s) to be lost and could, in some cases, cause system instability as well. The folks who can answer whether this is the case are your laptop manufacturer's support people, not Intel.

The second issue is whether the driver packages are identified as being customized. Unfortunately, iDSA does a crappy job of determining this and may block installation of the package. In most cases, this block is overridable, but this can be confusing for the casual user.

The third issue is whether the driver package itself will be able to overinstall a customized package. The answer here is usually not. What has to happen is for the existing driver to be completely uninstalled and the new driver then installed. This is obviously not possible using iDSA.

So, first step is for you to call your laptop manufacturer's support folks and find out whether or not the packages that they had been offering were indeed modified by them. If the answer is no, then great, you can upgrade to the latest available via Intel. Whether you can then rely on iDSA to manage this upgrade is TBD, however. I personally run the app to identify when updates become available, but then switch to manual download and install.

Hope this helps,

...S
