Hello Intel Community / Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue with my Intel Arc B580 graphics card when my monitors go to sleep/power-saving mode.

The Issue:

When Windows turns off the screens to save power, the system enters an endless loop of "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect" Windows sound chimes.

Additionally, when I wake the screens back up, Windows does not remember where my open programs were located. It moves all open application windows onto my main screen (Monitor #1), leaving the second screen clear.

Driver Information:

This behavior occurs on driver versions 32.0.101.8801 WHQL and 32.0.101.8824. Both versions display this exact issue.

I am not sure if older driver versions had this issue, as I am currently using these releases.

System Specifications:

GPU: Intel Arc B580

Drivers Tested: 32.0.101.8801 WHQL / 32.0.101.8824

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi (BIOS Version: 1.Q1)

RAM: 24GB

Monitor & Connection Configurations (Dual Setup):

Monitor #1: 1920x1080 connected via DisplayPort

Monitor #2: 1680x1050 connected via HDMI

I am an ordinary user rather than a technician, so I have not attempted any advanced troubleshooting steps. The behavior seems related to how the driver handles the screen connection handshake during power-saving mode, and I wanted to report it here so the engineering team is aware.

(Note: English is not my native language, and I used an AI assistant to help me clearly structure and format this post).

Thank you for your time and for looking into this report!

Hi Jonzyl,

Thank you for your response and for taking the time to investigate this issue.

Please find my answers below:

1. Is this working before? Any recent changes before it occurs?

I am a new Intel Arc B580 user, so I do not have experience with older driver versions. The issue is present on all driver versions I have tested:

Version 32.0.101.8826 WHQL Certified

Version 32.0.101.8824

Version 32.0.101.8801 WHQL Certified

Version 32.0.101.8737

The behavior is identical on all of them.

2. When did you first notice this issue starting? Was it immediately after installing the Arc B580 or after a specific driver update?

The issue has been present since the beginning. I first noticed it when Windows turned off the displays for power saving (screen-off mode).
At the time, I was using my phone and the PC was idle. After the monitors entered power-saving mode, I started hearing the continuous Windows device connect/disconnect notification sounds coming from the computer, which drew my attention to the issue.

3. Does this happen with both monitors going to sleep, or can you isolate it to one specific monitor?

I believe I may have identified the cause.

My monitor configuration uses:

Monitor #1: DisplayPort cable

Monitor #2: HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable

I suspect the issue may be related to the HDMI-to-DVI adapter connection on Monitor #2.

Please see the video at the following link for reference:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1znICsmQlRr5OW2LO1KrY6tq0g563Agon/view?usp=sharing

4. Have you tried different power management settings in Windows (like changing when displays turn off)?

Yes. The issue does not appear to be related to the selected power plan.

I tested multiple power plans including:

Balanced

High Performance

Power Saver

Custom plan

The problem occurs with all of them.

5. Are you using any third-party monitor management software?

No.

6. Do you happen to remember which driver version was working properly before this issue started occurring?

Unfortunately, no. As mentioned above, all tested driver versions exhibit the same behavior.

7. May I know the exact make, model and wattage of your PSU?

PSU model and wattage: G.TIGER 800W BLACK.

8. Could you provide photos or a short video showing the issue when it occurs?

Certainly. Please refer to the attached screenshots and the video link included in this post.

9. May I know what troubleshooting steps have you done?

At the moment, I have not found any solution or workaround that resolves the issue.

10. Please also provide your SSU logs.

The SSU report is attached.

Additional Note #1:

As an ordinary user, it can be difficult to perform extensive troubleshooting procedures. I understand the importance of collecting detailed diagnostic information, but many regular users may choose not to report issues because some of the requested testing can be time-consuming and technically challenging. It may be beneficial to consider more user-friendly diagnostic methods for non-technical users whenever possible.

Additional Note #2:

I would also like to ask about issue tracking and follow-up.

For example, in the following thread:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-Arc-Discrete-Graphics/Intel-Arc-B580-Browser-video-playback-freezes-stalls-during/m-p/1749121

The problem is approximately 95% improved compared to when it was originally reported, but it has not been fully resolved. There is still an observable issue related to video playback when the GPU is simultaneously performing animation rendering. The behavior appears to be connected to video decoding during animation rendering workloads.

However, the thread was closed with the following message:

"Since the thread has now been resolved, I will proceed with closing it. Please note that this thread will no longer be monitored."

Could you please clarify whether this means the issue is still being investigated internally and improvements may continue in future driver releases, or whether Intel now considers the issue fully resolved and no further engineering review will take place?

Thank you for your assistance and for forwarding these reports to the engineering team.

Best regards,
musmiwhb

Hi musmiwhb,

Thank you for the detailed information and additional observations regarding the HDMI-to-DVI adapter connection issue.

I appreciate you providing the comprehensive testing results across multiple Arc B580 driver versions (32.0.101.8737, 8801, 8824, and 8826) and confirming that power-plan settings don't affect the behavior. Yes, the attached SSU report and information you've provided should be sufficient for our engineering team's review.

Regarding your question about thread closure and issue tracking - I apologize for any confusion. After checking our process, we actually don't close cases until they're fully resolved or there's a mutual agreement that the thread can be closed. If you feel your previous issue wasn't fully resolved, you can absolutely open a new thread and we'll investigate it further. I'm sorry if there was any miscommunication about this.

For your current issue, here are some targeted troubleshooting steps you can try:

Step 1: Isolate the HDMI-to-DVI Adapter Issue

Temporarily disconnect Monitor #2 (HDMI-to-DVI connection)

Test with only Monitor #1 (DisplayPort) connected

Allow monitors to enter sleep mode and observe if device connect/disconnect sounds still occur

If the issue stops with only DisplayPort monitor, the HDMI-to-DVI adapter is confirmed as the cause

Step 2: Test Direct HDMI Connection

If possible, connect Monitor #2 using a direct HDMI cable instead of HDMI-to-DVI adapter

Test sleep/wake behavior with direct HDMI connection

This will help determine if the issue is with DVI conversion or HDMI port itself

Step 3: Display Power Management Settings

Open Intel Arc Control Panel or Intel Graphics Command Center

Navigate to Display settings

Disable any adaptive display features or automatic display detection

Set fixed refresh rates for both monitors instead of allowing dynamic changes

Step 4: Windows Display Settings Optimization

Right-click Desktop > Display Settings

Click "Advanced display settings"

Set both monitors to their native resolutions and refresh rates

Disable "Allow Windows to fix apps that are blurry" if enabled

In Power Options, set "Turn off display" to "Never" temporarily to test if power management is the root cause

Step 6: Intel Graphics Driver Clean Installation

Download Intel Driver & Support Assistant (Intel DSA)

Uninstall current Intel Arc graphics driver completely

Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode for thorough removal

You can check this link on How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall a...

Install the latest Intel Arc driver (32.0.101.8826) using Intel DSA

Test the configuration after clean installation

Step 7: Alternative Connection Testing

If available, test with two DisplayPort connections instead of mixed DP/HDMI

Try connecting both monitors to different ports on the graphics card

Test with monitors set to identical resolutions temporarily

Step 8: Power Supply Stability Check

Monitor system during sleep/wake cycles using HWiNFO64 or similar tool

Check for voltage fluctuations during display power state changes

Ensure PSU is providing stable power during transitions

Please let me know if these steps help resolve the issue.

We're looking forward to your response.

Best regards

Jonzyl B.

Intel Customer Support Technician
