I'm experiencing an ongoing issue with my Intel Arc graphics drivers on my HP laptop.

I regularly update my graphics drivers using Intel Driver & Support Assistant. The installation completes successfully, and I install only the latest WHQL-certified graphics drivers.

However, after I reboot following the update, Windows Update automatically detects and installs an older Intel graphics driver, effectively replacing the newer one I just installed.

As of June 30, 2026, the latest WHQL-certified Intel graphics driver available through Intel is 32.0.101.8826, but Windows Update consistently rolls it back to 32.0.101.6556 after installation

Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Is there a way to prevent Windows Update from replacing the newer Intel driver with an older version? Is this expected behavior due to an OEM driver policy, or is there another underlying issue?

System information:

Windows 11 Home, version 25H2

Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor

Intel Arc Graphics

32 GB RAM

Thanks!

Hello 50shadesofblue,

Thank you for posting your query on the Intel Community Forum.

I apologies for the frustration and inconvenience caused by this persistent graphics driver rollback issue. It can be highly disruptive to have your newly installed graphics driver automatically overwritten by an older version after a system reboot.

This behaviour typically occurs because Windows Update identifies a factory-validated OEM driver profile for your laptop and prioritizes it over a newer, generic driver release.

To resolve this issue and ensure your preferred graphics driver remains active, please follow the step-by-step troubleshooting guide linked below:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000087834/graphics.html

These steps will guide you through the correct installation process to prevent Windows Update from overriding your current driver, ensuring your system maintains its latest performance optimizations and fixes.

If you follow the guide and continue to experience issues, please reply to this thread with your system details so we can assist you further.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Best regards,

Nikhil

Intel Customer Support Technician
