Intel Arc Driver 31.0.101.4824 Serious Memory Leak

I have witnessed a very serious memory leak. The information in this paragraph concerns my experience while still on driver 31.0.101.4824. Throughout the entirety of the day I had been getting exceptionally high fan speeds and CPU temperatures while doing very light tasks (I usually do not do anything tough on my machine despite the specifications are enthusiast). Toward the evening I loaded up Windows and no other programs except the drivers which load automatically on bootup. The memory usage proved incredibly high and kept overbearingly going upward and the CPU usage was very high keeping in mind the processor is a Core i7-12700H. The CPU temperature was 89 degrees (it had gone up to 91 earlier in the day) and the fans were spinning hard (like they had innumerable times throughout the day). I had never been in such a predicament regarding the fan speed and the high temperatures before. The RAM used by Intel Arc Control had surpassed 25 Gigabytes and was going upward with pell-mell speeds before I shut down the machine. The screenshots below this paragraph regard statistics while running driver version 31.0.101.4824. The screenshots are taken almost immediately one after another depicting a very bad case of memory leak.

In consequence I reverted back to driver version 31.0.101.4676 after uninstalling version 31.0.101.4824 with DDU from Safe Mode. The RAM and CPU usage then became perfectly normal and the CPU temperature was immediately brought down along with the speed of the fans (they were incredibly loud before and could not be heard at all following the driver downgrade; currently many hours have passed while being on driver 31.0.101.4676 and the fans still remain unheard like they always used to be before upgrading to driver 31.0.101.4824). So the previous paragraph definitely unveils a major problem with the latest version of the driver - 31.0.101.4824. The screenshot below this paragraph regards statistics while running the previous driver - driver version 31.0.101.4676 - and everything is fine and like it should be.

I hope to hear from you soon and would be glad to cooperate!

Kindly,

VictorG97

Hi VictorG67, I can confirm my system is exhibiting the exact same behaviour as yours. Arc control using up memory resources until I manually quit.

So for the moment I will have to remove Arc from auto start.

Intel.. If you need any logs just let me know.

I did create a memory Dump... but it's 2Gb!! in size so I'm not posting it yet <LI-EMOJI id="lia_slightly-smiling-face" title=":slightly_smiling_face:"></LI-EMOJI>

Hello Everyone,

After looking at this, we would like to let you know that the developer team is currently investigating this matter; however, we can't commit to any estimated time for our update. We will further review this issue, and we will post back as soon as we have more details.

In the meantime, you can try the following workaround:

Uninstall driver 31.0.101.4824 using DDU. Check How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an Intel® Graphics Driver for instructions.

Install driver 31.0.101.4676 which includes the previous version of Intel Arc Control (1.71).

Perform a custom installation of driver 31.0.101.4824 unchecking the Arc Control installation option.

The new driver (31.0.101.4826) seems to be running smoothly and unproblematically as of the terms expressed initially within this post. The memory usage is very well and there seem to be no leaks witnessed. The CPU usage is also very good and the fans are running unheard and the CPU temperature is as it should be.

So far it seems that the Intel Arc Control Interface appears when it should and the way it should in an effortless and vigorous manner.

I would like to thank the Intel team for addressing the Arc Control Interface issue so thoroughly and quickly and for postulating a fix as to the memory leak in summary time. Hearing the voices of the community is indelibly something that will make the software much better in the long run. Keep it up and thank you!

Regards,

VictorG97
