No readline for IPython (Linux, home directory install)

I installed the Intel Python Beta (version 3.5) on Linux, in my home folder. The IPython doesn't seem to have readline support:

WARNING: Readline services not available or not loaded.
WARNING: The auto-indent feature requires the readline library

This may be why arrow keys don't work (up/left insert escape characters to my shell), no color, etc.
