Senior project: 1st timer decided to take on DIY Drone

Hello everyone,

Long story short I have a project due at the end of the semester and i decided to design a drone. My question to everyone is what would be the best route for me to take or exactly what to use. I was interested in purchasing the RDK. I'm not sure what i should use since I'm new to programming. Any advise or credible DIY links would be helpful.
