MCS96 question

Hi, I'm upgrading a vintage synthesizer and need to swap the processor. Currently there is a N80C196KB12 and I want to swap it for a N80C196KB16 with a FPO ending with "G". I managed to get a chip with a FPO ending with a "U". Is that likely to work ? I have not found any info on Internet regarding that. The chip is marked '86 '91 so it seems to be a quite late chip ?

Yes, they are quite old, I don't have any information from this side regarding those processors.

I'm thinking that those letters could be attached to the stepping.

REVISION HISTORY
This data sheet (270909-006) is valid for devices with an ‘‘E’’, ‘‘F’’ or ‘‘G’’ at the end of the top side tracking number. Data sheets are changed as new device information becomes available.

Here U is not mentioned.
