I have a few i7-1265UL CPUs from some all-in-one systems with busted touchscreens (repair is economically unviable) but I cannot get them to boot in my known-good B760 motherboard. Is this a compatibility issue? The product specification page is missing the usual 'Compatible Products' since this is a tray-only CPU.

Hello WDK,

Thank you for raising this concern through the Intel Community.

I understand that you are trying to get your PC working by installing the CPU into a functioning B760 motherboard. As mentioned by Alhill, you will need to verify whether the motherboard supports the Intel® Core™ i7-1265UL processor. To assist you further, kindly provide the following information:

Make and model of the B760 motherboard

Exact model of your all-in-one system

I'll wait for your response to help you with this matter.

Regards,

John M.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Nope, there isn't any many mention of these low power Alder Lake-PS CPUs anywhere outside of commercial purpose AIO/embedded system manufacturers.

I should expand my issue further and use the correct terminology in my original post, but I can't edit it:

The motherboards doesn't POST (different from what I original stated, which is boot). They appears as if the power supply isn't connected, no troubleshooting LED is lit when the CPUs are installed. I know the PSU is good, and it has two LED indicators to show 1) if it has wall power (it does) and 2) if the machine has called for power (it has not). I've tried resetting CMOS and updating BIOS to both boards (with a Core i5-13500), but no dice.

Since I cannot update the original topic post:

The motherboards doesn't POST (different from what I original stated, which is boot).

The motherboards appear as if the power supply isn't connected when power button is pressed (no fan spin, or troubleshooting LED is lit when the CPUs are installed).

I have tried two PSUs now, and one of which has two LED indicators to show:

If PSU has wall power (it does)

If the machine has called for power (it has not).

Reset CMOS on both motherboards and updated BIOS (with a Core i5-13500).

Hello @WDK,

Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.

These systems come in a Socketed SoC and will not fit in a normal motherboard as a desktop processor.

Alder Lake -S and Alder Lake -PS parts fit into the same socket but have a different pin maps/electrical connections to the board and thus need to have a way to differentiate them apart.

Best regards,

Thank you for getting to the bottom of this for me. I've just had at look at the prices of AL-PS/RL-PS motherboards and they seems to be rather costly low volume parts, guess this is a dead end for me.
