FreeBSD Driver for 82575 - I211-AT adapter - TCP/IP communication stopped to work after reconnection

Hello,

We have an issue that starting version 2.5.18 the product with I211-AT adapter that is used for TCP/IP communication stopped to work after Ethernet cable disconnection and reconnection again - it is not possible to connect to the product anymore.

We are using the drivers from the following link - Intel® Network Adapter Driver for 82575/6 and 82580-Based Gigabit Network Connections under FreeBSD*

We can confirm that the latest 2.5.21 version that exists on the web site still has the issue.

We cannot confirm if 2.5.16 is working or not, since the last version we used was 2.5.9.

This driver is a part of 3rd party RTOS we are using, and once the driver was updated from 2.5.9 to 2.5.18, the issue appeared.

We spoke with this company and they do not have the resources to try 2.5.16.

Before we could discuss this inquiry further with our engineers, we just want to ask for these additional information as we have asked from the previous thread as well.

You mentioned that the issue encountered each time you disconnect the network cable, connect it back and does not connect anymore? Can you confirm if you need to reboot the system for you to reconnect back?

May we also know the reason why you are disconnecting the network cable? Is it for troubleshooting purposes or are you using a laptop for example?

Hello Achilles,

I confirm that after cable disconnection and connect back, we need to reboot the system to reconnect it back.

We are disconnecting cable for troubleshooting / maintenance purposes - especially when we would like to connect directly to the system using point-to-point connection from laptop. Rebooting the system is not an option in such a case, as initialization of the whole system will need to be done each time after power-up.

Our engineers informed us that there was a change to the driver in version 2.5.12 that changes a timing loop for when a link goes up. The RTOS you are using may be relying on that loop in the older driver.

As such, we would like to ask if you try to replicate this issue on one of the currently supported FreeBSD versions listed from the link below. We are asking you to test this using a supported OS so we can further provide support.
