Hi Jay,

Yes that does sound serious if it prevents you from using the device.
Have you tried using the provided Power Plate + AC adapter? It might be better to use them instead of charging the battery while the device is in use.

As for the issue, we'll definitely look into it.

Regards,

Meitav

Intel Euclid Development Team

Hi,

What's the timeframe on fixing the battery charging issue? It's been on the known issues list for a while now.

The more I use the Euclid, the more of a problem this is becoming.

Thanks,

Jay

Hi Jay,

Which battery charging issue are you referring to?

Our HW specialist who usually works on these types of issues is on vacation at the moment, and will be back in about 3 weeks.

If you can elaborate on the issue, I'd be happy to help you in the meantime.

Regards,

Meitav

Intel Euclid Development Team

Hi Meitav,

Thanks for checking into it.

No, I haven't tried the Power Place + AC adapter.

My Euclid is on a mobile robot base, which doesn't have enough battery power for the Euclid. The Euclid uses its own battery while the robot is driving around, and then I manually plug the Euclid in to charge while stationary (i.e. when I'm just working on code). I have to pay close attention to the battery charging status (via the web interface) when I plug it in, otherwise I'll end up completely discharging the battery without realizing it. I have found that the charging status reported via the web isn't always accurate either - but haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem well enough to report it (probably related to the original I2C issue?).

My current "safe" default is reboot the Euclid every time I plug it in to recharge, which gets very tiresome during coding sessions...

--Jay

Thank you Marty,

Yes I'm looking into this case too. Unfortunately I have not yet managed to replicate the error with my device, meaning it might as well be a manufacturing error (which isn't good at all, but the solution might have to be replacing the power plate).

We still need to look into both of these cases, in order to assess the cause.

Meitav

Intel Euclid Development Team

Hi Marty and Meitav,

Since we're talking battery/power issues in general here too, I will mention another odd behavior.

After unintended discharge of the battery to extremely low levels (low enough for a shutdown, maybe 4%), I plugged the Euclid in to the charger, booted, and it reported 100% charge (and -not- charging). I tried rebooting, as well as power cycling, but the result was the same. What finally "cleared" the condition was removing and then reinstalling the battery, at which point battery level was low (4 to 5%) and the Euclid was charging. I'm not sure if the actual removal process fixed something,or if it was the time delay it took to actually remove and reinsert the battery.

In any case, this has happened to me twice so far.

To try to reproduce this, I recommend starting the standard "Camera" scenario and run your Euclid until the battery dies. Once it dies, try rebooting a couple of times on the "dead" battery to make sure it is really dead. Then plug in the charger, boot, and see what the system status reports.

When I have some free time, I'll attempt to generate the conditions again on my device.

--Jay

Hi Jay,

Removing the battery is one of the ways to solve a lot of the problems that a normal reboot doesn't fix.

Apart from a few more severe problems (such as if you were to accidentally modify the camera's firmware), it should pretty much be your go-to for any of your serious problems.

I will try to reproduce these errors myself, thank you for the analysis!

Regards,

Meitav

Intel Euclid Development Team
