Ok, I understand. It was a good idea to link Bolous into the discussion, as they will get a link to the discussion in their forum message inbox even if the message disappears down the forum front page during the weekend. Good luck!

Just starting to print the 3D printed parts for an OTIS build - but can't seem to find the BOM for the motors, electronics, etc. Where can we obtain the gear motors, roller wheels, and other non-printed parts?

BolousAbuJaber

Could you please provide more details of your project please so that everybody who isn't BolousAbuJaber knows what you are looking for? I'm guessing that BOM is the Bill Of Materials (the list of parts), but searches for 'OTIS build' only provide links for Otis elevators. I know they use motors and roller wheels too, but I had a feeling that an elevator was not the project you were working on. Thanks!

Sure thing - I am trying to build the OTIS robot that BoulousAbuJaber described on the Euclid Community page in the "Building OTIS" tutorial.

http://www.euclidcommunity.intel.com/ Intel® Euclid™ Community

However, although most of the project is quite detailed, it seems to omit where to obtain the DC Gear Motors, Roller Wheels, and other off-the-shelf parts needed to complete the build.

Just trying to figure out where to obtain the Bill of Materials and links to order those parts.

Yes, I read the PDF instructions for the project just now. My impression is that the electronic parts are generic ones and most that you pick yourself for your project will work fine with it. I can understand the wish for some parts website recommendations to help you research a shopping list though.

A good starting point may be a large electronics retailer such as Arrow, who are also an Intel Approved Distributor (the recommended companies to order Intel parts from). They had some motors and roller wheels.

https://www.arrow.com/ https://www.arrow.com/

Example:

https://www.arrow.com/en/products/kit0015/dfrobot https://www.arrow.com/en/products/kit0015/dfrobot

Unfortunately, there are very specific mount points and mechanical allowances in the 3D printed base of the OTIS robot. It's clearly designed to accommodate a specific set of gear motors and roller wheels on the bottom chassis. The parts look fairly straightforward, but it would save a ton of effort and tweaking to just get the ones that were used for the original design upfront.
