I just purchased a copy of the Intel Fortran Compiler 2015 for Mac, Student License, with the intention of installing it on a 64 bit Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I downloaded the file as m_fcompxe_2015.1.108.mpkg When I click it to install, it runs software to see if it can be installed. When I clikc OK and run it, is sends message that the installer quit unexpectedly with a long report to send to Apple, starting with the message below. From what I can tell, the software documentation claims to be able to run on my system. I do have Xcode 3.2.6 installed, if that helps

Sorry to hear about the errors when trying to install the compiler. The errors do not look familiar so let me see what I can find out that helps understand what happened and how to overcome this.

I believe the issue relates to your OS X* and Xcode versions. I believe those are inadequate/incompatible for the IPS XE 2015 release. The versions you noted having date back to our 11.1 release (2009 timeframe). I'm checking w/someone more knowledgeable about Macs to see what options may exist for upgrading your OS and Xcode since I assume that would be preferred to going back to the 11.1 compiler release.

Our resident Mac expert

Our resident Mac expert confirmed my findings indicating your OS X* and Xcode are far too old, not compatible, and the installer will fail and compiler would even crash.

From the resources I found/noted below, it appears your Macbook Pro is perhaps capable of running the OS X* releases supported by the IPS XE 2015 release. IPS XE 2015 supports OS X* Mavericks (10.9) and OS X* Yosemite (10.10) and Xcode* 5.0, 5.1, 6.0 or 6.1.

If your MacBook Pro is of the style/vintage noted in the Apple Documents below, then it appears you could upgrade your OS X* 10.6.8 and Xcode to versions supported by the IPS XE 2015 release.

Mavericks System requirements says: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later, 15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
OS X Yosemite Installation requirements says: MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite system requirements: Will my Mac run OS X 10.10? (The article also includes link to Macs that OS X* Mavericks supports.)

You can visit the article Upgrade to OS X Yosemite. Free on the Mac App Store for info/steps on obtaining OS X* Yosemite. Xcode is also a free download from the App Store.

Some final additional advice from our expert, when changing between a large gap in OS versions on the Mac, there is a chance some existing other applications may no longer work. So you may need to check with any 3rd party application vendors about versions and support for other applications you currently have.

Hope this helps.
