ifc v7.1.042 or ifort 8.0_046_pe049_1 ??

Hello,

Apologies if this question is a bit out of date - I searched this forum for an explanation but didn't find one.

I just got back from vacation and found an Intel email stating "The newest Intel Fortran Compiler 7.1 for Linux* Product Update is now available for download". Am I missing something here? I thought the v8.0.046_pe049_1 compiler (announced 25 June) was the active development branch? Which one is the latest and greatest?

You're correct. The new 7.1 version would incorporate some bug fixes, for those who continue to use 7.1. It would not bring any new 8.0 features, except possibly support for newer linux versions. Just my opinion, I can't even access the release notes this morning.

8.0.049 is definitely the "latest and greatest". We have been doing limited, critical bug fixes for 7.1 for customers who, for various reasons, haven't yet moved to 8.0.

So if you're using 8.0, stay with that. If you are using 7.1, then there's an update for you. 7.1 updates will become fewer and further between as time goes on. 8.1 will be out in a few weeks.
