I downloaded the BUILD file, and reinstalled Build 8.

Same thing - NO HELP topics.

Was't it supposed to put local help when I installed it?

There is no other way to get it that I can determine.

The topics for configuring LOCAL help all give ZERO results.

I have a brainstorm:

What if the installation was not really finsihed when it said it was?

In tha case, when we open a project when we THINK its finished,
we might be interfering with the process. But how would we know it really is?

However, one would think that when it says "Installation finished"
that they really MEAN it, right?

Hello -

I had a working help library until I installed build 8.
Now all I am getting is the INDEX shell, but the actual contents are gone.
In other words, the right hand side of the window is blank for all topics.

Furthermore there is no way to update the library from On-line, at least
not with the Fortran 12 XE contents. The HLM does not give me a way to do that
from what I can determine.

I don't see why a new build would not at least let me keep what was working before.

The other computer still has build 7, so I can go back to that if needed. Bot now I
am reluctant to update that one also.

Bill, you wrote about this in a separate thread. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling as I suggested?

Sorry, but I could not find the other thread, otherwise I would have replied to that.

Anyway, I could not figure out how to uninstall it. In the list of all programs, I
see references to "Parallel studio" and "visual studio" but no links to Compilers.

I looked under INTEL, nothing there under compilers.

Nothing under the release notes about how to uninstall the compiler either.

I was afraid I might uninstall the wrong thing, and make this situation even worse.

Would that also get rid of build 7? I guess I would have to reload that until there is a more
mature release of Build 8.

In the other thread a user noted that the first time loading the help file it takes a long, long time...i almost thought it had a problem.
but went about other business and when i came back after a while it loaded and worked fine.
i closed and and just reloaded it and it came up fast andisworking fine.

so i guess i'd recommend patience on the first load.

b

Bill, you uninstall Intel Visual Fortran the same way you do any installed product on Windows - through the "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" applet in Control Panel.

The release notes has section 2.3 "Changing, Updating and Removing the Product".

OK, the process is now started.

Will this take me BACK to a previous build, or will I have to go back
to a download I had before?

I will consult the Release Notes again.

What confuses this issue is that they call it - - - -
"Composer" or "parallel studio" but don't say "fortran" or "compiler."

Thanks, and Merry Xmas ! !

What "BUILD file" did you download? It should have been Update 8 of Intel Visual Fortran Composer XE 2011. Yes, it installs local help. Does C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Composer XE 2011 SP1\Documentation\en_US\compiler_f\cl\index.htm exist and can you open it? (If you are on a 32-bit system), remove "(x86)". This is an alternate form of the documentation.

You can also try this. In Visual Studio, select Help > Manage Help Settings. Click on "Add Content from Disk" and browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Composer XE 2011 SP1\Documentation\msvhelp\1033\compiler_f You should find a helpcontentsetup.msha file which you select to add local help. Continue with the prompts.
I downloaded the one ending in 8.278 file size about 892 MB.

But the directory path you gave me does not exist. so if the HELP is there,
I don't know how to find it. I guess the Fortran package doesn't know that either.

If you cansuggest a KEY WORD, I can search for it using that, and see if
it ever got put on the disk drive.

I think IDID find the find that you suggested, not the same path, but anyway, I could not add it.

The option says "Local"
