From my experience, Balanced power mode works best for everyday use. When I switch to Best Performance, the laptop does run faster, but it also heats up and the fan noise becomes more noticeable. If you haven't already, open Intel Graphics Command Center → System Power and enable Adaptive Performance. This helps the GPU adjust without draining battery too quickly. It made multitasking smoother on my 12th Gen system.

Best Power and Performance Settings for Intel Laptops in 2025?

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some guidance on optimizing performance on my Intel-based laptop and wanted to ask the community for insights.

I recently upgraded to a laptop running Intel Core i7-13620H (13th Gen) with integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The system runs well overall, but I’ve noticed performance can vary depending on whether I’m on battery or plugged in.

I’m particularly curious about:

Recommended Windows Power Mode settings (Best Performance vs Balanced)

Whether enabling Intel Dynamic Tuning / Intel Power Engine Plug-in actually helps in real-world use.

If adjusting TDP / performance modes in the BIOS makes a noticeable difference in everyday workloads (browsing, some light video editing, and multi-tab research work).

Best practices for keeping performance stable while maintaining reasonable battery life.

My goal isn’t extreme gaming performance — I just want smooth multitasking and reliable thermals without the fans constantly ramping up.

If anyone has tested different configurations or has a preferred setup, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Also, if Intel has an official guide or tool for performance tuning beyond Intel Arc Control / Command Center, please let me know I may have missed something.

Thank you in advance I’m looking forward to learning from your experience.

I’ve done some light video editing on my system using CapCut Desktop, and I noticed the performance improves significantly when the laptop is plugged in. CapCut uses both CPU and integrated GPU, so if you're on battery, the system tends to limit power draw. I’d recommend editing while plugged in and keeping your laptop on a cooling pad. It keeps temps more stable and prevents thermal throttling.
