Hi everyone, I have an ASUS Rog Strix G16 which is just over a month old. I had an odd problem today with changing the brightness settings. I have two display adaptors which are up to date:

1. Intel UHD Graphics - 31.0.101.4255 (driver version)
2. NVIDIA GeForce 4070 GPU

When I pressed the brightness up and down buttons, the indicator pops up on screen on Windows 11, but the brightness didn't change. I think I have had this problem once before since purchasing, but a simple restart worked which after troubleshooting worked again today.

Does anyone have any advice? Is this is a major issue? Not really sure what to do. It seems to me maybe it's just a temporary glitch rather than hardware issue? The NVIDIA GPU was inactive at the time, so I presume it must be related to Intel or Windows 11?

Thanks.

It may be that Asus has installed this button support via a customization of the Intel Graphics driver installer. Subsequently overinstalling with a generic Intel driver package could lose you these customizations. To check if this is the case, you can either contact Asus or reinstall the graphics driver package provided by Asus.
Hope this helps,
...S

Hello OnlyAlex,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We are glad that fellow community members jumped in and helped you. We would be more than happy to help you.

For this problem, you can try the following:

Disable auto brightness if you have that feature.

Go to Windows Settings by searching Settings

Go to System

Go to Display

Uncheck Change Brightness Automatically

Repair System files

Open the Search menu, type Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.

Type chkdsk then press Enter

Type prompt then press Enter

Now, paste the following two commands and then hit Enter after each to scan and fix issues with the ieframe.dll file:

sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll

sfc /verifyfile=c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll

Type assoc then press Enter

Type sfc /scannow then press Enter

Note: The above scans will identify problems with the ieframe.dll file and the other corrupt system files and replace them with their cached copy. After running the scans, check if the brightness slider is now working.

Also, as @n_scott_pearson mentioned, it would be helpful if you can reinstall the graphics driver package provided by Asus. Based on the Asus website, the latest Intel Graphic driver available is V31.0.101.4255. To install this driver, you should perform a manual clean driver installation. Corrupted files from previous installations of drivers can linger on a system which can cause driver updates to not work as expected.

In case the issue persists, the best course of action is to contact Asus support for further recommendations. Please, note that your system contains hybrid graphics (Intel UHD Graphics, NVIDIA GeForce 4070 GPU), Asus will have a much better comprehension of the system configuration and will more efficiently advise you regarding this problem.

Best regards,

Jean O.

Intel Customer Support Technician
