Hello,

I have the same experience as @Firemaker , @rx7jordan and other people reporting the eye strain condition due to GPU dithering:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/how-to-disable-dithering-6bit-display/td-p/1568892

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/Intel-Iris-Xe-Graphics-temporal-dithering/td-p/1551595

I have a horrific eye strain that begins during the first 5 minutes of using the display and rises continuously.

One who's not experiencing this cannot even imagine how hard it to bear this kind of strain during 8 hours of daily work schedule.

This is happening with all notebooks equipped with integrated Intel GPU chip sets that I have tested so far (Iris XE, UHD) in Windows 10 at least .

The eyestrain is for sure caused by the dithering of the GPU , most likely by the software driver, because there are software solutions out there that can disable it, which indeed causes color banding but makes the eye strain go away, at least for me.

The banding effect does not bother me at all, as it's happening inside images where color shade transition is needed, whereas I'm using mostly monotone colors in my daily work which involves computer programming.

Given the seriousness of this health related issue, having an option in the Graphics Command Center that would allow the user to disable dithering for internal & external display is something that Intel could easily provide, in my opinion. There could be a disclaimer message next to it saying that color banding would occur, and this is something that the user would assume, same as it is today for the "Unlock FPS at the expense of tearing" option.

I kindly urge you to provide this option for all of us who are literally suffering immensely because of this issue and act at the height of a company that cares about all its customers.

Thanks,

Bogdan

Hi Alfred

What about for the new lunar lake built-in arc graphics on mobile chips? 140v and 130V. If you have a true 8-bit monitor, is there no dithering by default also?

Also That page you linked has not been updated since 2021 and does not cover recent chips: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000037473/graphics.html
