Do I still need a graphics card 'in-slot' to use the Integrated Intel UHD 770 Graphics or is it stand alone with HDMI on board output?

You don't need a graphics card in the slot.

The processor-integrated UHD770 delivers signals to the display connectors integrated in the motherboard where the processor is installed.

Depending on your motherboard model, you may need to explicitly enable the processor integrated graphics in the motherboard BIOS. If you provide the motherboard make and model, we can help you.

Thanks that gives me a kernel of info to proceed with some decisions. I am building a new machine, considering MSI B760 Gaming Plus WiFi Gaming Motherboard DDR5 Dual Memory, Intel Core i7-12700K Gaming Desktop Processor with Integrated Graphics LGA1700 - installing with Windows 11.

No Fortnight, Minecraft, or Call of Duty gaming, so my graphics demands are not extreme. I am moving however, from a BIOSTAR TA990FXE, AMD FX 6100 Six-Core, running Windows 10. Where I've had a stubborn suspected root-kit virus problem for a couple years - shutting down (no reboot) sporadically etc. This might be over-kill but I just feel a solution with an upgrade and some robust features is needed.

With these criteria, you can also consider using an ASRock B760 Pro RS WiFi as a motherboard. This motherboard has physical connectors that allow you to use the full graphics capabilities of the UHD770 built into the Core i7-12700K:

But no matter which motherboard you use, if you don't install a graphics card in the PCIe slot, the BIOS will automatically use the one integrated in the processor. You just have to make sure that you buy a processor model with integrated graphics. There are also some without integrated graphics. For the 12th Gen processors, these would be the so-called "F" models, so the Intel Core i7-12700(K)F, for example, would have NO graphics.
