Intel Arc B580 Not Working Linux - Ubuntu-MATE

I am struggling to get my Intel ARC B580 operational on my PC. The card is not being detected and cannot be used.

The PC has an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor

The operating system is Ubuntu-MATE running on Linux kernel 6.13.4-061304-generic x86_64.

Running Mesa version 'Mesa 25.0~git2502210600.64552d~oibaf~o (git-64552db 2025-02-21 oracular'

The following commands and their outputs are presented beneath.

Command 1:

:~$ glxinfo -B | grep -i device

Return 1:

Device: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (BMG G21) (0xe20b)

Command 2:

intel_gpu_top

Return 2:

No device filter specified and no discrete/integrated i915 devices found

Setting the environment variable DRI_PRIME = 1 does not work. The only graphics device OpenGL appears to be detecting is my integrated graphics card. For example: glmark2 cannot use the intel card regardless of what DRI_PRIME is set to, it is not detected.

I am using the supported Kernel ( >=6.12 ) for the B580, I also have the Ubuntu drivers installed. I would appreciate any assistance in making my graphics card operational.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

The entire PC is a new build, all other components are working as intended, graphics card has not yet worked with the PC.

The motherboard model is: MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI

No recent changes to the hardware other than re-seating the graphics card a few times to ensure it wasn't a connection issue. The card is connected to the display monitor via display port.

Too make sure did you install the Client GPUs and ran the ITEL-GRAPHICS-PREVIEW ?

Edit:
Looks like you might need the right version of ubuntu-mate.
-UM 25.04 will be the first version to support that card out-of-the-box.

Dear Dean,

I have given up and decided to install Windows - the hardware works as expected now.

No matter what I tried I could not make it work with the previously mentioned linux system.

If you find the solution to the issue it still may be worth posting it here if others may find the solution useful 🙂

I wanted to let you know that the supported operating systems for Intel Arc are currently limited to the following:

Ubuntu 22.04
Ubuntu 24.04
Ubuntu 24.10

Since you're experiencing issues with Ubuntu MATE, it would be best to coordinate with the OS distributor for further assistance regarding the compatibility of the Arc GPU with their OS. This information was also highlighted by @Posihdun. I will be closing the thread as well. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.
