Hi,

I'm using a Dell E5450 with i5-5300U. When connecting my notebook per HDMI, it displays an "Intel Display-Audio" device which seems to send audio data to the receiving device (green bars on the right indicate audio playback), but no sound can be heard.

I'm using Windows 10 x64 with 10.18.15.4256 Drivers.

How can I make it work?

Same for me. Dell XPS 15 9530 with Intel HD Graphics 4600. Also, if I do not set the default playback device to the laptop (Realtek High Definition Audio), instead of the TV, so it does not attempt to play the audio through the TV but plays on the laptop, mp4 videos and YouTube videos on Chrome are choppy on the HDMI. Was working flawlessly on 8.1. I am on 10.18.15.4256 Drivers as well. There seems to be issues to be ironed out over an HDMI connection for the drivers.

Hello floele,

It took me some time to come around to this post and to be able to test the audio.

After installing windows 10, I tested with graphics driver version 4248 and 4256 and I got audio with both versions, I tested with different devices with HD Graphics 4400, 4600, 5500, and 6100 using HDMI and DP. If you are able to see the audio playback in the audio tab, then this means that there is an audio signal going to the monitor. You can check the audio setting for the monitor and also test the outputs with external speakers or headphones.

Testing the audio out from with external speakers or headphones is not a valid scenario as in this case the sound comes out from whatever internal sound card you have, in my case Realtek, and not from the Intel HDMI Audio. I have the same issue as floele where the green bars are showing on the playback but no sound can be heard on the TV, and I am sure the HDMI input on the TV is fine as other devices are working fine on it. I have also noticed on the latest 10.18.15.4256 Drivers that the setup does not include the Intel HDMI Audio driver. Usually on Windows 8.1, when you run the install, you see it installing that specific driver. I do have it listed in my Device Manager, but it's not from the latest driver itself. I quote DamienM4194 from

"I have a MSI laptop that has the HD 4600 intel graphics. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 and I noticed with these drivers the Display Audio Driver is not actually included even though it states that it is. I have downloaded the zip file 3x and it does not have the same Display Audio folder as the latest windows 8.1 driver that can be downloaded. Without this driver I cannot send sound over the HDMI port when connected to my TV/Surround Sound. This worked fine prior to the upgrade but I have been unable to install the Display Audio driver and it is not detected by Windows 10. Please help."

Intel Core i7-4720HQ

Intel HD Graphics 4600

I see the green bars when I test the audio or change the volume, and just like all of you, no sound. The drivers from windows update, my manufacturer, and intel all appear to be the exact same version. Reinstalling the drivers will occasionally get me sound for one sitting, but after another restart or disconnecting my TV, it's all gone.

I've tested the HDMI audio under linux and it works perfectly fine.

I've tested on a Panasonic Vierra, and a Sony Bravia, both with new firmware and separate HDMI cables.

The EDID of both TVs only allow stereo, which is fine for me, except I can't toggle between stereo and surround, which seems to have fixed it for some ppl.

Intel blames the manufacturer, and the manufacturer can't replicate my problem. Intel's only solution is to reinstall the driver and/or blame the other guy.

I would like to draw attention to the link below.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-030039.htm Graphics Drivers — No Audio Through My HDMI Cable

At the bottom of the page it reads:

    Solution ID: CS-030039

    Last Modified: 11-Aug-2015

    Date Created: 08-Jan-2009

This has been an ongoing issue for over six years...

The 10.18.15.4256 drivers are now listed as previously released on driver download site, but no newer drivers are listed. So I went to the device manager and selected to update the driver and I indeed got a new one: 10.18.15.4271

However, my HDMI issue remain. I cannot get the sound working. Same problem as 4256 drivers. I tried also to update the Intel Audio Driver but it told me latest. Are you guys going to post the 4271 drivers on the download center? Maybe it contains a newer version of the HDMI audio driver.

Well I have fixed the issue in my case by a very weird suggestion from another forum. Simply uninstall Hyper-V. Go to Program and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off and remove Hyper-V. There seems to be a conflict and now my HDMI audio is working flawlessly.

Try disabling it from the bios as well. If your motherboard supports Hyper-V, there should a "Virtualization" or similar setting in the bios. Also make sure you have the latest Intel Management Engine. But also your case seems different than mine. You could get stereo sound but not surround. In my case I had nothing, and my laptop supports only 2ch.

Here is the post mentioning Hyper-V conflict:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-10-hdmi-audio-not-working/293eec79-e0f8-4837-bbd0-341cfc9bd446 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-10-hdmi-audio-not-working/293eec79-e0f8-4837-bbd0-341cfc9bd446

See reply from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/profile/198d25df-088e-47a7-bc58-c07fa23e502a JC1135
