Monitor resolution issue when dual booting Windows and Linux

Hello,

I want to connect my laptop to an external monitor that supports 3440x1440

resolution. When I boot into Windows, the monitor works perfectly at that

resolution. However, when I boot into Linux, I cannot set this resolution and

defaults to 3840x2160 (which looks ugly and stretched).

My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 9na Gen (Intel Core Ultra 5 125H) with Intel

Arc graphics. I use Fedora 42 with Wayland and Gnome 48.

Can anybody help me to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance!

It seems that there's resolution issues when booting up into Linux. Please share more information below for me to investigate this properly.

1. Are you using any adapters, converters, or any of the same kind?

2. What is the full model of the external monitor?

3. What display cable are you using?

4. What is your Linux kernel version?

5. Kindly attach a photo/screenshot of how it looks on Windows vs on Linux.

Hello Jed,

1. I do not use any adapters, just an HDMI cable from the laptop to the monitor.

2. The model of the monitor is LG 34WP65C-B.

3. An HDMI cable from laptop to monitor.

4. Kernel version: Linux 6.14.2-300.fc42.x86_64

I reviewed the technical specifications of your laptop: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i and it seems that it only supports Windows 11. Please be informed that product you are reporting is an OEM original equipment manufacturer device. Kindly take into consideration that our support may be limited since we are not familiar with the technology, settings and customizations that the OEM has designed on your system.

Could you please confirm with Lenovo if the system supports the Linux operating system? If it does, kindly share the reason why you are looking forward to using it.

Hi Jed,

I tried to contact Lenovo about Linux compatibility but I got no response on their part. Looking at the table on this link (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd031426-linux-for-personal-systems) seems to indicate that there is no official support for the laptop I have. This is disappointing, as the laptop runs Fedora42 perfectly except for this issue with monitor resolution.

I tried to investigate and review the specifications of your laptop further but it really appears that it only supports Windows operating system. For issues such as this, it would be advisable to contact Lenovo to understand why the problem occurs exclusively with Linux and to confirm whether Linux is fully supported. There may also be specific configurations or patches available for your setup when using Linux.
