When I was Looking on Jarrod Tech's Benchmarks. It's quite odd for me to see the A530M only using 62W to 72W. So I kind of want to know if this normal or not.

Hello IcyFrost,

I am writing to provide you with an update following our investigation. To address your concern, please refer to the information outlined below.

Understanding TGP (Total Graphics Power):

TGP is a thermal and electrical design specification that represents the maximum power draw limit for a GPU. It is not a constant value and can vary based on usage conditions:

1) Light Load: During activities like video playback or web browsing, the GPU may consume significantly less power than its TGP.

2) Heavy Load: In scenarios such as gaming or rendering, the GPU may approach or briefly reach its TGP.

It is normal for a GPU not to reach its maximum TGP, and this can be beneficial unless stress testing or running workloads that consistently demand full GPU performance.

OEM Control Over TGP:

For laptop GPUs like the Intel Arc A530M, TGP is typically set and controlled by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Factors influencing TGP settings include:

1) Thermal and Power Design: Ensures the GPU operates within the system's heat and power limits.

* Cooling solutions (e.g., fans, heat pipes, airflow)

* Power delivery systems (e.g., VRMs, battery/charger specifications)

* Chassis space and thermal envelope

2) Performance Prioritization:

* Lower TGP variants focus on battery life and thermal management.

* Higher TGP variants aim for maximum performance.

3) BIOS/EC Firmware Locks: TGP values are often locked in the BIOS or embedded controller firmware, preventing user adjustments. OEMs have the flexibility to set these locks.

4) Dynamic Power Adjustment: The system itself may adjust the power delivered to the GPU depending on whether it is running on battery or AC power. Additionally, some OEMs may provide specific tools to "throttle" the entire system power when running on battery to optimize battery life and thermal performance.

For further clarification regarding the expected behavior of your system, we recommend reaching out directly to your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Having provided all relevant information, I will now proceed with closing this inquiry. Should you have any additional concerns, please feel free to submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Best regards

Jed G.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hello, I have been monitoring the A530M in a couple of games and using HWINFO 64, the A530M's Power limit 1 is confirming to be 95W but during in game, for some reason I was hitting around 65W which is the Lower TGP of the A530M.
