I've been having this problem for a while now but never connected it to the integrated graphics. I have a discrete card that I use, but I have dummy monitor set up on the integrated graphics, so I can take advantage of Intel Quicksync for watching movies. I have a 2500k that is currently not overclocked.

I used to get a lot of crashes during startup when I had Windows 7 if I started the system with my tv on. I never experienced any other crashes.

I recently wiped my drive and installed Windows 8. The crashes have been coming often during startup with the tv off and I have also experienced several crashes when I turn off the tv and leave the computer running. I'll turn it back on to a blue screen. Every minidump shows igdkmd64.sys as the culprit. It makes sense because the system is switched onto the integrated graphics. I have never seen a single crash with the tv on. =

I have used multiple drivers and the ones that come on the discs with Win 7 and 8 seem not to crash. From reading different forums, it seems that this started with later drivers.

I've done a lot of stress testing due to overclocking experiments with Prime95 and have never had a crash there except what was related to undervolting the CPU.

My next testing step would be to take out the discrete card and run just on the integrated graphics, but I don't want to do that if there's some alternative.

Here's what blue screen view shows:

==================================================

Dump File : 031513-9953-01.dmp

Crash Time : 3/15/2013 1:26:42 PM

Bug Check String : SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Bug Check Code : 0x0000003b

Parameter 1 : 00000000`c0000005

Parameter 2 : fffff880`04e3df6d

Parameter 3 : fffff880`0464f560

Parameter 4 : 00000000`00000000

Caused By Driver : igdkmd64.sys

Caused By Address : igdkmd64.sys+23af6d

File Description :

Product Name :

Company :

File Version :

Processor : x64

Crash Address : ntoskrnl.exe+7b040

Stack Address 1 :

Stack Address 2 :

Stack Address 3 :

Computer Name :

Full Path : Z:\031513-9953-01.dmp

Processors Count : 4

Major Version : 15

Minor Version : 9200

Dump File Size : 321,632

==================================================

Hello Corpgator,

I understand you are getting BSODs when using the Intel® HD graphics with a TV.

Please note that the error igdkmd64.sys in fact can be related to the onboard graphics driver.

It is important to mention that we provide generic drivers that have not been developed or tested specially for your system. Each motherboard, laptop or Original Equipment Manufacturer can add, remove and change features on the video controllers they implement on their systems. Therefore they provide customized drivers to support such changes. So we always recommend using the latest drivers provided directly by your motherboard or Original Equipment Manufacturer.

You can download the driver for your graphics controller from the following link:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22375&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

Note that the driver below is our generic driver. It is a good idea to install the driver from your system manufacturer in case our driver does not work properly in your system.

We provide an application that is called Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool. You can run this application and it will diagnose the processor components and will generate a result. I suggest you running this in to discard any possible issues with the processor (hardware).

You can get this from the following link:

If operating system is 32 bit based:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19791&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2032-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19791&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2032-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples

If operating system is 64 bit based:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19792&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19792&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples

Thanks.

I ran the proc test and it passed fine although it did skip the igraphics with or without it enabled in the bios. I don't know whether or not I get the bsod using my mobo's driver because I need intel's latest driver in order to properly decode VC-1 with quicksnyc. There was a bug until 2932 and my motherboard manfacturer is still 2 iterations behind that.

I'm just going to leave the igraphics disabled and use DXVA decoding instead.
