Just bought a Asus Vivobook 15 F1504VA-MS731 with an Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe graphics card. I have a Dell docking station K20A001 and two monitors, an ASUS 27” Eye Care Monitor (VA279QG) and an HP 25es. All drivers are up to date. I can connect either monitor to my Asus laptop directly through their HDMI cables, but I only have one HMDI port, so I can only connect one at a time. I can connect both monitors to a Dell laptop either through their HMDI cables or through the docking station, so I can use both monitors in extended mode on the dell laptop. However, the Asus laptop cannot detect either monitor through the docking station. Any suggestions for how to get the docking station to recognize a monitor?

Hi @PamB,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I’ve reviewed all possible causes for the issue you're experiencing, and I’d like to start by discussing your hardware setup.

You're using an ASUS laptop equipped with Intel Iris Xᵉ Graphics, which is typically available on systems with Intel i5, i7, or i9 processors. While I couldn’t confirm the exact CPU model from the laptop manual, Iris Xᵉ Graphics supports only one extended display for this device, which aligns with the manual stating support for HDMI version 1.4

Yes, you can absolutely connect an external monitor using a direct HDMI-to-HDMI cable. However, using a docking station, especially one from a different brand, can introduce compatibility issues. Intel does not recommend using third-party adapters or docking stations, and cannot guarantee their performance or compatibility. Check this article: Using Video Cable Adapters, Splitters and/or Docking Stations in...

I reviewed your setup and found that you're using:

ASUS 27” Eye Care Monitor (VA279QG) with a bandwidth of 6.59 GbpsASUS 27” Eye Care Monitor (VA279QG)

HP 25es Monitor with a bandwidth of 3.20 Gbps

Combined, these monitors require 9.79 Gbps, which is within the capabilities of Iris Xᵉ Graphics. The maximum supported resolution is 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz, which requires up to 14.25 Gbps. So bandwidth is not the limiting factor here.

The issue likely stems from port limitations and the use of a third-party docking station. This setup may not be compatible with ASUS technology, and unfortunately, I couldn’t find any indication that it would work reliably.

You may try isolating the issue by testing different HDMI cable versions listed in the screenshots I provided., but please note that this is not guaranteed to resolve the problem. My recommendation is to either:

Avoid using this Dell docking station for dual monitor output, or

Use a premium docking station brand ASUS.

Contact ASUS support for further assistance tailored to your specific laptop model.

Let me know if you need more information.

Best regards,
