High CPU/GPU usage on video playback + display standby

Setup:

CPU: Core Ultra 9 275HX
DGPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop
Hybrid GPU Mode: ON
External display connected to display port (DGPU based on hwinfo64 sensors data - at least while the display is active).
Intel Display Driver: 32.0.101.8509
Performance level set to office mode.

Software setup:

MPV.IO streaming a video
The monitor is turned off using an AHK script calling: SendMessage(WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, 2,, "Program Manager"). It is similar to windows turning off the display (putting into standby mode) after the specified inactivity time.

When the monitor gets turned off (= goes into standby mode) while playing (streaming) a video, the CPU / GPU usage goes up: the fans start running at a higher, clearly audible speed. When the monitor is awaken, the fans go back to normal again.

This problem was not present on my old laptop.

I can see 2 errors in Event Viewer: one when the monitor is turned off, and another slightly different one when the monitor is turned back on.

I recommend installing this version after performing a complete DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) process in safe mode to ensure all remnants of your existing driver are fully removed from your system. Actually this is a terrible advice. No one should follow it.

Driver v32.0.101.8531 is not WHQL certified, so in a few minutes Windows has downloaded (I can see the lost GBs on my system drive) and replaced it with a very old version of the driver (32.0.101.6733).

@Ogmios The driver not being WHQL certified has nothing to do with why Windows downloaded and installed an older version.

The reason is because of an Intel problem, which has been happening for years.

Now, to stop this from happening, download and install the driver you want.

Then, immediately run the wuShowHide microsoft tool (attached) to hide the older driver that windows wants to install.

I've temporarily turned off:

System Properties (sysdm.cpl) \ Hardware \ Device installation settings \ automatically download manufacturer's apps.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have however big concerns with the "immediately" part. So I assume the best way to do this is (please, let me know if this is not correct):

set Windows Update to notify before download, e.g. with:

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f

use wuShowHide
restore the Windows Update settings (by deleting the above key).

But since this is a significant issue, Intel should fix it with very high priority.

Can you check whether this issue remains even after disabling hybrid mode? If the problem stops when hybrid mode is turned off, this would suggest the issue stems from OEM configuration.

It's either DGPU or Hybrid mode, and the problem is present only in Hybrid mode (both with IGPU power saving on and off).

If it is OEM related, it means only a BIOS patch can fix it?
