Setup:

CPU: Core Ultra 9 275HX

DGPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop

Hybrid GPU Mode: ON

External display connected to display port (DGPU based on hwinfo64 sensors data - at least while the display is active).

Intel Display Driver: 32.0.101.8509

Performance level set to office mode.

Software setup:

MPV.IO streaming a video

The monitor is turned off using an AHK script calling: SendMessage(WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, 2,, "Program Manager"). It is similar to windows turning off the display (putting into standby mode) after the specified inactivity time.

When the monitor gets turned off (= goes into standby mode) while playing (streaming) a video, the CPU / GPU usage goes up: the fans start running at a higher, clearly audible speed. When the monitor is awaken, the fans go back to normal again.

This problem was not present on my old laptop.

I can see 2 errors in Event Viewer: one when the monitor is turned off, and another slightly different one when the monitor is turned back on.

This issue might be related to:

Actually this is a terrible advice. No one should follow it.

Driver v32.0.101.8531 is not WHQL certified, so in a few minutes Windows has downloaded (I can see the lost GBs on my system drive) and replaced it with a very old version of the driver (32.0.101.6733).

Driver Store Explorer:

Device manager:

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have however big concerns with the "immediately" part. So I assume the best way to do this is (please, let me know if this is not correct):

set Windows Update to notify before download, e.g. with:

<LI-CODE lang="bash">reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f</LI-CODE>

use wuShowHide

restore the Windows Update settings (by deleting the above key).

But since this is a significant issue, Intel should fix it with very high priority.

Hi Ogmios,

I recognize the importance of this issue, and apologies for the extended duration it has taken. This is being treated as high priority so I will conduct another internal investigation regarding the automatic installation of older drivers and the repeated errors you've been facing.

Best regards,

Stanley B.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hi Ogmios,

Can you check whether this issue remains even after disabling hybrid mode? If the problem stops when hybrid mode is turned off, this would suggest the issue stems from OEM configuration.

Additionally, would you be able to provide another SSU file for our team to review? Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility

Best regards,

Stanley B.

Intel Customer Support Technician

It's either DGPU or Hybrid mode, and the problem is present only in Hybrid mode (both with IGPU power saving on and off).

If it is OEM related, it means only a BIOS patch can fix it?

Hi Ogmios,

Considering the persistence of this issue in Hybrid mode, I suggest consulting with your system manufacturer. They have more comprehensive understanding of the technology, configurations, customizations, specialized drivers, and features that were built into your system.

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to report this problem. We will take note of this issue to prevent future occurrences of similar problems. This thread will be closed at this time. Should you have other concerns, please feel free to create a new thread, as Intel will no longer be monitoring this discussion.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

Stanley B.

Intel Customer Support Technician
