How I wish I could access myt original profile and Account!
I was listed as "six-h", now I'm told that name is taken!!

Yes, by me!!! Grrr

If Scott is around these days, I would really love to have his help.

My old NUC was plodding along just fine until yesterday, when mid morning it just froze.

Turned out from BSOD screen that there is a problem with the Graphics Driver!

The message was"VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE" and at the bottom, the cryptic message: "IGDK MD64SYS"

Please, Please can Scott or someone help me to sort this.

Windows keeps going to "Repair" and rarely gets further than the first screen before it freezes.

Any help gratefully received, Thanks

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum, I was hoping to see one called "Legacy Systems" or some such! very confusing!

Since Scott is not available, I'll try to help you.
From your post, I understand that your Windows is corrupted. I suggest that you should recover your System using Restore Point recorded in the Restore Environment:

1. Boot from Windows Installation Media and enter into Advanced Menu.

2. Execute the System Restore.

3. Once in Windows, download the latest version of the Display Driver.

4. Disconnect the internet.

5. Right click on currently installed driver (in Device Manager), then click on Uninstall device. Check the Delete the driver software from this device option.

6. Reboot your computer. After finishing uninstalling you should see Microsoft Basic Graphics Adapter (if not yet, repeat 5-6).

7. Now, install previously downloaded driver 31.0.101.2115

8. Reconnect the internet and reboot your computer.

Hope this helps

Leon

Hello Leon,

Thank you for picking this help request up, I'm grateful for your help and I hope that Scott is not "indisposed".

First of all, my apologies for the delay in responding to your kind offer of assistance but having "cast my net" as far as I could, the initial response was from Marie Black who now has the impressive title of "Global Director of Content Operations"!

She used to work on PC Advisor Magazine as Technical Editor and has helped me in the past so I continued with her until today, I think she may be busy with "real" work matters.😁

Sadly, when I get to the "Use System Restore" option, having selected that, it then tells me to specify which Windows installation to restore!

and advises me to re-start the PC, select the OS and then select System Restore.

This is not possible since attempts to boot the PC into Windows freezes at some point before the sign in window, this time frame decreases rapidly with each attempt!!

So far, with Marie's help, I have gotten as far as the "System X Command window" and performed several interrogations and have got as far as this screen shot.

I mailed her back asking if I should take the final step and request that the Graphics driver be renamed ".old" and then exit and boot back into the installed OS, which would hopefully use a generic Windows display driver so that it would not freeze and allow me to consult Intel for the appropriate cuurent driver for the machine.

At this point, disaster struck and the machine which had been running the "Sys CMD Window" froze, after 48+ hours running!

I had left the machine on during that time in case I couldn't get back to that point whilst waiting for replies from Marie.

Hope all that historical info makes sense, and that you can advise me.

Thanks, Geoff.

Hi Leon,

Another machine, my Medion Erazer Laptop running Windows 10 home has also now succumbed to the same problem, during the two or three minutes it allowed me access on rebooting, I checked “Updates” only one today, Windows defender.

Have Redmond decided to destroy all the machines that are signed up to receive extended updates?

…Serious question!

I,m now reduced to using my iPad which I hate, if I’m further reduced to using just my Android phone, I’ll find typing impossible!

Thanks Leon,

You will not believe what has happened this afternoon (the last 4 hours).

Sat bemoaning my fate over a cup of Coffee when I saw from a distance that my NUC which despite being plugged in to the power was switched off, suddenly lit up the screen!!
I thought in my depressed state, "Ignore it, it'll freeze in a few minutes".

It didn't, it presented me with the Sign In screen which grabbed my attention!

I signed in and immediately went to Updates to see if there was any evidence that MS Almighty were responsible.

There, it was in process of downloading KB5078885 my machine is a bit sluggish due I think to an over filled C:\ drive, it's only 128GB which was all I could afford in 2016.

However things progressed and two auto re-starts later it requested me to re-start!
with much trepidation did as I was bidden and behold, it shut down and re-started smoothly.

Confidence in the machine thoroughly gone, I began typing an email and part way through it froze!
Oh no I thought, as it was followed by a black screen and **bleep** me it just returned me to the mail I was writing as if nothing had happened!
Sadly, that's not (yet) the case for my Erazer Laptop.

I am certain that MS have dealt us aa dicky update which has broken the system, it's not yet back to how it was, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

Hopefully they will also repair my Erazer , remotely!

Nope! I'm not on drugs, though I'm beginning to think someone might have slipped something in my Coffee!
Unbelievable!
May we leave this thread open for a while because as I say, confidence is low at the moment!

I'm sorry to have taken up your time and effort, and I'm sure Microsoft are also sorry (Yeah! The hell they are!)

I've attached a photo of the update that "Woke" my NUC from it's grave!
