Hi i am sure you are aware about the problems the paring of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and Intel Arc dedicated graphics / intel ultra processors.

In a quick match everything woks fine.

Soon as i enter in a longer, more demanding match it crashes, laptop freezes and audio bugs.

I have sent the laptop into warranty, hardware is not faulty, thermal paste has been changed and it has been cleaned.

I have removed all drivers using DDU and installed the latest graphics driver.

Last year, i was running on a stable version of the game engine that Intel's drivers actually understood. Now that Ubisoft forced everyone onto DX12, the Intel driver is choking on the new code.

I need to know if the issue will be fixed in the next driver update or if it even is taken into consideration

Hello LucasKing4546,

Thank you for reaching out and providing such detailed information about the Rainbow Six Siege compatibility issues you're experiencing. I truly understand how frustrating this must be, especially after you've already taken thorough troubleshooting steps including warranty service, driver reinstallation with DDU, and hardware verification.

You're absolutely right about the challenges that arose when Ubisoft transitioned to DX12, and I appreciate you sharing your technical insights about the driver compatibility concerns.

As a potential solution, I'd recommend trying to start the game using the Vulkan API instead of DirectX11/12. This alternative rendering path may provide better stability and performance. For detailed instructions on how to enable this, please visit: Launching Rainbow Six: Siege with Vulkan API.

Please give this a try and let me know how it works for you. If you continue to experience issues, I'll be happy to explore additional solutions or investigate more regarding driver optimization priorities.

Thank you for your patience, and I hope this helps resolve the crashes and stability issues you've been experiencing.

Best regards,

Bueno S.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hello Bueno S,

Thanks for responding so quickly, i appreciate it.

As you can see, the link you attached is not working because, as of this year, Ubisoft transitioned to DX12 so they have removed the option to run the game using the Vulkan API. You can search it up, but I am sure of it because before even Steam was asking me if I want to run to run the game with Vulkan.

That being said, I have narrowed the driver problem to a VRAM leak.

Since my laptop uses an Intel Core Ultra processor with integrated Intel Arc graphics, the GPU dynamically shares my system RAM. I have noticed that the game runs perfectly smoothly with no issues during short Quick Matches. However, during longer Unranked matches, the memory slowly fills up, and the current Intel driver seems unable to properly clear the old DX12 data.

The exact second the shared memory completely saturates, the GPU panics. This causes a sudden voltage/power spike that trips the motherboard's safety mechanisms, resulting in an instant hard freeze, vertical lines (GPU artifacting) across the entire screen, and an Event ID 41 Kernel-Power crash. It forces a complete hard reset of the laptop, accompanied by a blinking white-orange diagnostic light on the side of the machine.

I have already verified that my hardware is completely healthy. The laptop easily survives 15+ minutes of both OCCT Power and VRAM stress tests at 100% load without a single error or crash. I have also tried mitigating the leak by manually adjusting the Shared GPU Memory Override in the Intel software and significantly increasing the Windows Virtual Memory (pagefile) as a safety net, but unfortunately, neither prevented the crash.

Because this only started happening after Ubisoft forced the DX12 update and retired Vulkan, this is clearly an architectural conflict between the Siege DX12 engine and the Intel Arc (Meteor Lake) drivers.

Are there any beta drivers currently available that address this specific memory management bug, or is the driver development team internally tracking this issue for an upcoming release? I would appreciate any insight or workarounds you might have in the meantime.

Thank you!

Hi LucasKing4546,

Thank you for your detailed explanation and for the effort you’ve put into isolating the issue—it’s very helpful.

I understand the behavior you’re describing, particularly with the VRAM usage and the crash occurring under extended gameplay in DX12. I will be investigating this further on my end and to proceed with a more in-depth analysis, I would need your help in providing the following:

Crash dump files

An Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) report

These will allow me to better assess the system state and identify any patterns or conflicts contributing to the behavior you’re experiencing.

Once I receive these, I’ll continue the investigation and get back to you with any findings or possible next steps.

Thank you again for your cooperation, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Bueno S.

Intel Customer Support Technician
