Finally! Intel has been harping on Microsoft to fix this for years. Sadly, as you can see, it is only a partial fix for this problem - and even that isn't going to be available for 6 months.

But wait.... I was pretty sure that it was Intel that caused this problem.

Whatever, good to see someone working on it.

MS could make the fix simple, now. - just make those driver updates optional.

Well, I guess that you could say that, technically, it *is* Intel who causes this problem. It is Intel who creates the catalog entries for new driver packages - but it is the ambiguity in the way that MS' Windows Update engine decides what drivers apply to a machine that actually causes the downgrades to occur.

This is a complex issue and a lot of finger pointing - in both directions - has been going on for many years.
