Arc B580 Driver Failure on Fortnite UE5 Streaming Load

Intel Support Team,

I am writing to report recurring driver crashes and game exits occurring on my Intel Arc graphics card while playing Fortnite. The game launches normally and loads into the lobby, but it frequently crashes back to the desktop during matches — especially when boarding the Battle Bus and during World Partition streaming asset loading. This issue is consistently reproducible.
System Configuration

Device: Desktop PC
Motherboard: ROG B660-G
CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12490F
Graphics Card: Intel(R) Arc(TM) B580 Graphics
System Memory: 32 GB
Operating System: Windows 11 (25H2, Build 10.0.26200.8457)

Issue Description
The game launches, logs in and enters the lobby without errors. However, after matchmaking starts and a match loads, crashes occur frequently during the warm-up phase and upon entering the Battle Bus. The game process terminates abruptly. In most cases, Windows Event Viewer logs show records related to graphics driver resets.

Based on local log analysis, there are two distinct crash scenarios:
1.Soft Crash: Fatal error captured by Unreal Engine

Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

The call stack points to VCRUNTIME140.dll and rendering-related modules in FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe.

2.Hard Crash (GPU TDR): Logging stops abruptly during garbage collection and streaming asset loading, with no fatal error entries. This matches the typical behavior of a GPU Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR), where Windows forcibly resets the graphics driver and terminates the game process. Current TDR settings: Level: Recover, Delay: 2, DdiDelay: 5.

Common Log Behaviors Before Crashes

LogBattleRoyaleGamePhaseLogic: HandleGamePhaseChanged ... NewPhase = EAthenaGamePhase::Aircraft

LogFortHitches: HITCHHUNTER: Hitch in GameThread of 100+ ms

Massive World Partition and IoStore streaming asset loading activities

The game runs on DirectX 12 (D3D12, Feature Level SM6). Fortnite sets the minimum required driver version for Intel GPU DXR to 2147483647, which disables hardware ray tracing for Intel Arc products, indicating Epic Games is aware of existing DXR compatibility issues with Intel Arc. Nevertheless, crashes still occur even when Lumen and other rendering features run via software paths.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Attempted

1.Performed clean installations of the latest Intel Arc graphics drivers (versions 32.0.101.8801 and 32.0.101.8824). The problem persists, and version 8824 triggers more severe GPU hard crashes.
2.Modified Windows Registry entries to set TdrDelay = 10 and TdrDdiDelay = 20 to extend the GPU timeout threshold; crashes still happen during asset loading.
3.Switched Fortnite to Performance rendering mode and restarted the game to apply changes. Some logs still show PreferredFeatureLevel: sm6 instead of es31, suggesting the Performance mode may not function correctly. Crashes continue to occur.
4.Reduced in-game graphics settings, including global illumination, reflections, shadows and XeSS.
5.Cleared shader caches under %LocalAppData%\FortniteGame\Saved\D3DSCache and retested.
6.Verified game file integrity via the Epic Games Launcher.
7.Confirmed Above 4G Decoding and Re-Size BAR are enabled in motherboard BIOS.

Additional Information
Game Version: Fortnite Release 40.40 / 40.41
Rendering API: D3D12 RHI; Intel Extensions Framework loaded
I can provide full FortniteGame.log, crash dump files, as well as Display and Application error logs from Windows Event Viewer upon request.

Request
Please confirm whether this is a known compatibility issue for Intel Arc B580 drivers when running D3D12 workloads under Unreal Engine 5 with World Partition streaming assets. Kindly recommend stable driver versions, system/registry adjustments or temporary workarounds. I am ready to provide additional logs or detailed reproduction steps for further investigation.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Date: May 28, 2026
