Have you tried installing the drivers from your computer manufacturer? It is possible that your system requires a customized driver that should be provided by Lenovo.

Here you can find the appropriate driver for your computer:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-z-series-laptops/lenovo-z50-70/downloads/DS103952 Laptops and netbooks :: Lenovo Z Series laptops :: Lenovo Z50 70 - Lenovo Support (US)

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-z-series-laptops/lenovo-z50-70/downloads/DS103958 Laptops and netbooks :: Lenovo Z Series laptops :: Lenovo Z50 70 - Lenovo Support (US)

Regards.

Well that doesn't help at all, this driver won't even install. What I find more troubling is that I know there is an older driver that doesn't do this because every time I install it, it works, but I keep getting this not-working driver through windows update against my will

Have you tried contacting Lenovo in order to get help to install the driver? It is uncommon that you cannot install the drivers provided by your computer manufacturer.

You can temporarily stop some of these updates by using this tool from Microsoft:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Regards.

unfortunately lenovo's support requires a warranty or that you pay a premium, but this will work, thank you for your help
