Intel Display Audio with Windows 8.1 on Asus M004U Desktop

When using the latest Intel drivers for Intel HD Graphics and Intel Display Audio for the Celeron 2955U on Windows 8.1 64-bit causes HDMI audio output to be broken.

Using default class drivers, HDMI audio output constantly displays that no output is connected in "Playback Devices". After installing the Intel specific drivers, no output devices are shown at all in the "Playback Devices" dialog box.

There are no errors when installing the drivers, and the Display Audio Out is reported as functioning normally within device manager. Further, HDMI output functions correctly under a Linux install with Intel drivers. This leads me to believe this is a device- and OS-specific driver issue that can be resolved by a driver update from Intel.

I am not the only one experiencing this issue. For more information, please review the posts http://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/24ln4s/windows_8_on_usb_hard_drive_running_on_asus/ here and http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=203040 here

Please let me know if you need any information from me (such as system logs, etc.) to help with debugging and resolving this issue on Windows.

Hello PityOnU, I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with this system.

The Celeron 2955U processor is part of the Haswell family.

http://ark.intel.com/products/75608/Intel-Celeron-Processor-2955U-2M-Cache-1_40-GHz?q=2955U http://ark.intel.com/products/75608/Intel-Celeron-Processor-2955U-2M-Cache-1_40-GHz?q=2955U

The following URL will show you the correct site from where you can download Intel generic drivers available for your processor.

Intel® Iris™ and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 32bit https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24246&lang=eng&ProdId=3720 Intel® Download Center

Intel® Iris™ and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64bit https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24245&lang=eng&ProdId=3720 Intel® Download Center

Bear in mind that these drivers are for Windows operating system.

Intel does not test and validate Intel® NUC on Linux, however we know that a lot of NUC owners are using it successfully.

I will suggest you checking your Linux distro's website and forums for peer assistance with this issue.

Regards

Thanks for the response and information sylvia! Unfortunately, using the drivers you have linked does not solve the problem - I am still unable to use HDMI audio under Windows 8.1.

Is there anything you need from me that would help identify the exact source of the problem? Again, I am not the only one experiencing it.

HI,

i'm currently using the same system as PityOnU: Asus M004U with Windows 8.1 64-bit except I'm using a USB soundcard with an optical output (Turtle Beach Micro II). This configuration works well with XBMC: I get dolby surround sound from my Denon receiver via the optical output of the USB soundcard. The problem happens when I run Netflix and select Dolby Digital+: The framerate drops to maybe 2 frames per second and there is no sound but everything run's smoothly if I select Stereo. Maybe this is caused by the same thing as what PityOnU is experimenting...

thank you.
