Running with either graphics processor suffers the flicker from forced 1080i.

It is the Intel hardware and drivers that control the second screen, the fault lies there somewhere.

Hey Folks,

When loading DX11 games in full-screen at 1920x1080, the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel sometimes forcefully changes the video output to 60i Hz from 60p Hz. As a result, it causes horrible screen flicker. Changing the game to run in windowed mode returns it to 60p Hz and removes the flicker, as does changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to something else. This is only noticeable on the SECOND screen, which is a plug 'n play standard 1080p monitor.

PC Specification:

Graphics: GTX 880m (running driver 337.50 beta - no alternative version available yet) & Intel HD 4600 integrated (running latest drivers).

CPU: Intel i7 4910MQ 2.90 GHz.

RAM: 16GB DDR3.

2nd Monitor: 24" 1080p LED screen operating at 60Hz connected via DisplayPort -> HDMI (though HDMI -> HDMI makes no difference).

OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1.

Why would the Intel drivers be automatically forcing my resolution to 1080 interlaced when the monitor can (and does) support 1080 progressive in every other context?

Thanks.

Hi Costlyy, I have some questions about your issue:

May I ask how did you determine that Intel® HD Graphics is causing this issue and it is not part of the Nvidia* graphics driver?

Does your system have a switch to manually select only one of the two graphics adapters?

You may want to update to the latest BIOS provided by the system manufacturer.

Please provide the game titles, system model (or msinfo32) and Intel® HD Graphics driver report.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009476.htm Graphics — Intel® Graphics Driver Report

Hi Joe,

I determine that this is caused by the Intel drivers as opposed to the NVIDIA because the NVIDIA drivers do not control screen resolution / refresh and do not even have the options available. It is only Windows or Intel that can be causing this.

The preferred graphics processor is set globally as "High performance NVIDIA GPU" in the NVIDIA control panel.

Intel report:

http://pastebin.com/Za4ScCsD http://pastebin.com/Za4ScCsD

64-bit DxDiag:

http://pastebin.com/ThVsWyeN http://pastebin.com/ThVsWyeN

As morismichael said, this only seem to happen in certain DX11 games such as CIV5, ArmA 3, Tomb Raider 2013, etc.

Thanks,

Al.

It seems that other common factors you both have are Intel® HD Graphics 4600 and NVidia* GTX 880m. At this moment the graphic driver versions you are using for each graphic adapter are different.

Usually the computer manufacturers design their systems to use NVidia* graphics for performance and gaming, it is because of this that I find this issue mostly related to NVidia* graphics and I highly encourage you to check with them or with the system manufacturer.

Still, you may also try updating to the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3720&DwnldID=23714 latest Intel® HD Graphics stable version (morismichael) or the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3720&DwnldID=23858 beta version, latest BIOS, testing with Vertical sync in game and NVidia* options (Use applications settings is the default option in Intel® HD Graphics control panel) or a different monitor.

I also wanted to ask if the game is only running on the second screen or both. Is the display mode set to clone, extended, or collage?

I'm experiencing the same issue and came across this thread. I have a Clevo/Sager P157SM-A with Intel HD 4600 (latest drivers installed) and NVIDIA GTX870M. As I understand it (and it appears to be the case due to lack of options in the NVIDIA control panel), that the Intel GPU is managing the HDMI/DisplayPort connections. I have a DELL U2314H monitor and have tried via HDMI and DisplayPort (directly), in both cases certain games (e.g. Arma 3) will switch to 1080i mode in fullscreen mode (and not 1080P). I have played around with settings in the Intel control panel (59p Hz, 60p Hz) without success.

The work-around currently for me is to clone the laptop display and external monitor (so both are active). In this case the external display correctly switches to 1080p mode when entering full-screen.

Please provide an update on this issue!

Thanks.

=====================

[Attaching report as .txt - change made by Bryce@Intel]

I have the same problem using only the integrated graphics (HD Graphics 4600).

Starting Civilization V with DX11 in fullscreen makes my display (DELL U2414H) to switch from 1920x1080 to 1080i and showing screen flicker.

If I run the game in windowed mode it shows no flicker, because it stays in the same 1920x1080 (p) mode like the desktop.

Starting Civilization V with DX9 the fullscreen mode works without any flicker, it then runs in 1920x1080 (p).

The display is connected via DisplayPort and shows the same behavior using HDMI or DVI to HDMI.

I have the same issue. I have Intel i3 with HD 4600 integrated graphics as the only video card, and a Samsung 50" TV. As other people described - DX 9 works normally, DX 11 forces 1080i when running full screen.

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600

[Attaching report as .txt - change made by Bryce@Intel]

* Other names and brands are the property of their respective owners.

I wanted to ask: What are the resolutions being used for each display and for the game?
