I've got a 3rd gen Core i7 (i7-3517U) with the Intel HD 4000 driver.

I want to upgrade to Iris so I can run 4k. I downloaded this driver version 15.33.14.64.3412: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23639 Download Center

I went to device manager, got through to download from disk, pick the igdlh64.inf file from the downloaded driver files. It goes through the updating driver process, then asks me to restart. When it restarts, the Driver is back to version 10.18.10.3412 which doesn't support 4k.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong and what I need to do to get my 4k monitor working?

I know how to manually install a driver. When you try, it says the most recent driver is already installed (10.18.10.3412).

As I said before, I try to install from disk as well, and it runs through the installation, but then after the restart, it's back to the old driver.

Sorry about the trouble. That message indicates that your computer manufacturer does not allow the installation of generic Intel video drives. You are required to install drivers from your computer manufacturer.

Allan.

Is there any way around that, Allan? The manufacturer hasn't released an update to the driver and I can't plan that they will. Is there a way I can manually install the iris driver and force the change?

The workaround was trying to force the installation of the driver from the instructions I have previously provided to you. Please check the link again:

http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm

Allan.
