Hey Jonny80s,

in my case it's a HDCP problem, since I get an HDCP error when streaming Amazon Instant using Silverlight. I crossposted here and linked my question since I didn't get any support in the other thread and here an (assumed similar) HDCP problem was discussed.

Thx anyway

System:

Intel Core i5-4670T(2.30GHz) HD4600 graphics

ASRock Z87E-ITX motherboard

8Gb RAM

Windows 8.1

I have the above HTPC (latest Intel divers) connected to a Merdian HD621 audio processor leading to a Pioneeer LCD diaplay

The Merdian HD621 and display are both HDCP compliant and I have other blu-ray players going though the system with no problems.

In the HDMI properties of my HTPC, however the Inel driver indicates 'HDCP not supported' so I can't play blu-rays via my HTPC.

I've tried different HDMI cables etc.

Any suggestions as to what the issue could be?

Hi Madscientist,

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with this configuration but let me help you.

Can you please confirm if you are using a direct connection between the devices (no adapters)? If you are using video adapters, have you checked if are HDPC compliant? Can you also post your dxdiag report here?

I am having this same issue.

Just switched over from a dedicated gpu so that I would be consuming less power only to find out intel 4600HD graphics has a severe HDCP bug.

My system: gigabyte z87-ds3h with 8gb ram, i7-4770k cpu, win7 x64 professional, ceton infinitv6 for cable card tuning and hauppaugge 2250 for ota tuning. The HTPC is connected to my onkyo TX-SR805 via hdmi and then hdmi to my Samsung lcd tv. The issue Is with windows media center playback of copy protected material. I have no issue with blu-ray playback just protected cable channel playback.

Today an extremely knowledgeable cable tech came to my house to do some troubleshooting. He informed me that SDV channels have different mpeg encoding so that they don't take up as much bandwidth. So from what I understand from this is that for some reason intel's hd 4600 graphics solution has a problem with mpeg4 encoding. Mpeg 2 seems alright, besides for some really annoying video flickering.

In the end it is not an HDCP/hdmi cable spec issue, it's a driver issue.

Yeah, I figured this out yesterday when the cable tech came by. We had a discussion concerning SDV and how SDV channels are encoded in mpeg4...... Therefor making intel onboard graphics completely impossible for HTPC builds. I'll have to find a lower power fanless graphics card to reduce my power consumption and lower the sound output of the unit. Asus' gt630 should do the trick.

Thank you for the response.

Im having the same issue on a Toshiba laptop with an HD 4600 and Win 8.1. My directv app says it will not allow playback, the driver does not prevent screen capture for protected content.

I just bought the laptop today, updated the video drivers as told by directv and no change. So are your saying this hardware will never allow playback of this content ? If so I will return this laptop now before I loose any packaging and find one with an amd video chipset.

I have a similar problem:

If I understand correctly, intel develops HDCP which is not downwardly compatible and we bought new, but already outdated intel hardware??? And even if I buy new Intel hardware, what happens with the release of the next HDCP version???

Well, depending on the graphics controller you can get support for HDCP. Nowadays, our graphics controller HD 4600 or 4th generation supports up to HDCP 2.1 so I regret to say that this may be a hardware limitation.

Hallo kevin_intel, thanks for replying to my post.

Before I buy new hardware, is there a way to diagnose the problem and to find the weakest link in the chain (regarding HDCP version) or at least to check the supported HDCP version of my HD4000? Theoretically, it might be a hardware bug or some incorrect sent signal as well(?).

Moreover, is there some official/general FAQ regarding HDCP, that is, how to cope with HDCP when buying new hardware, can I, in the future, update the HDCP version current hardware with a new firmware? For example, I buy a new TV supporting HDCP 2.1 and everything compatible, that's fine. But after releasing HDCP 2.2 I get a new blueray player and I'm forced to buy new hardware or at least to wait until I get corresponding HDCP updates for ALL hardware. And if even one manufacturer does not deliver, I got the weak link in my HDCP chain and the problem starts again.

So you see, for me it's just not the current problem, but I am really at loss here how to cope with this issue in the future...

Guys it's not an HDCP issue. It's simply that intel's graphics solution doesn't support playback of mpeg4 streaming video, which unfortunately is what the cable companies are turning to freeup intranet bandwidth.

Hey Jonny80s,

in my case it's a HDCP problem, since I get an HDCP error when streaming Amazon Instant using Silverlight. I crossposted here and linked my question since I didn't get any support in the other thread and here an (assumed similar) HDCP problem was discussed.

Thx anyway

Glowallp,

The HDCP support is at the hardware level. The software will make the transition to make the hardware work fine but in the case that the driver supports higher versions the hardware will still support HDCP 2.1.

You seem to restate the same response over and over. Can you suggest a solution? I have the same issue with my i7-3770K with an LG BH12LS38 Internal SATA Blu-Ray Drive. I can't play blu-ray. It is not the cable and not the monitor. The drivers do not support HDCP. I need a driver that supports HDCP and it doesn't seem appropriate suggest trying different hardware combinations or install a graphic card and stop using HD4000.
