Exactly, you can connect up to three monitors.

You will need to use the PCI Express 3.0(GEN3) CFX Support slot on your ASUS motherboard. See the photo here:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-K/ Z170-K | Motherboards | ASUS Global

Your motherboard already has a VGA, DVI-D, and HDMI port. These will be using the graphics included in the Intel processor. Many users find these graphics inadequate for their purpose (i.e. gaming).

For the add-on graphic adapters, you can select from many manufacturers that make cards using the AMD/ATI or NVidia chipset, including ASUS.

You can also use USB adapters, or cards that use the other PCIe slots on your motherboard.

I suggest you contact ASUS support for guidance in selecting the appropriate add-on cards and adapters for their board.

Doc

I have done (contact Asus) but obtain no response in a week. Is pending I suppose.

I have the list of graphical devices and with two old not compatible graphic cards i have three monitors connected in extended way.

Even i have to downgrade one of the monitor with an adapter to VGA. After many experiments.

I have mounted with my own hands the intel processor in the asus motherboard.

Can I override the limit of the processor and motherboard beyond three monitors

I have even seen during the two discreet graphic cards the possibility to have four monitors, but i was unable to reach with the two graphics cards i own : nvidia 9800 GT , nvidia 8400 GS

Correct, this will depend on the BIOS of the computer. If you install an external video card the onboard graphics solution is disabled electronically.

Please check with your board maker for more information.

Allan.
