Under each main combo I've listed points of difference that I've "so far" been able to find...

ARK claims these are the only differences between the "northbridges"

But MST is just one main componant of ICH10x!

I'm ultimately trying to decide what the best combo is: Q45+ICH10DO, Or G45+ICH10R

The main use initially is as NAS/fileserver etc, but longer-term I may want it for more video decoding etc.

I think I'm almost decided on the 82Q45...

The extra features it has (listed above) may be more useful for what will (at least initially) be a NAS and "jack of all trades" server.

Unless someone highlights some extra differences that tip-the-balance towards the 82G45!?

However the decision between the ICH10R or ICH10DO still remains, so any advice/input there is greatly appreciated!

Actually according to this there's no difference in terms of Matrix Storage Tech features!

So ICH10DO's only unique features (that I've found so far) are:

*Intel Active Management Technology [Release 5: Pro]

*Intel Trusted Platform Module

*JTAG Boundary Scan

For what will be a NAS/multi-purpose server that may also be a media server / MythTV backend...

I can't see how any of these would be drastically more valuable/useful than:

*Intel Turbo Memory Support

*Wake on VoIP (this is just a subset of Intel RWT isn't it?)

*Intel Viiv Processor Technology Support (just a cert ICH10R gets because of it's stronger IGP?)

Particularly considering that if I switch to ICH10R I'll be getting 82G45 as the NB, & hence the X4500HD!

But is it still possible to get VT-d and Trusted Execution Technology in the 82G45?

They're the only features unique to 82Q45 that I'm aware of....

I know officially 82G45 doesnt support them, but perhaps it depends on the motherboard OEM's implimentation?

After some more in-depth reading I've decided* that:

*Intel Active Management Technology [Release 5: Pro]

*Intel Trusted Platform Module

*JTAG Boundary Scan

Will be a far more useful for the intended platform than:

*Intel Turbo Memory Support

*Intel RWT (inc wake on Voip)

*Intel Viiv Processor Technology Support

If 82Q45's X4500 is too anemic for some decoding then I'll just have to get more/better RAM, a quad-core CPU, & perhaps OC a little.

Or off-load the work to a seperate machine, as the PCIe 16x will eventually be populated by a RAID controller...

Aside from the X4500HD & it's associated features the 82G45 offers nothing compelling for the intended application whereas 82Q45 offers:

Intel AMT

Intel VT-d

Intel TXT

& too a lesser extent Intel TPM 1.2

So 82Q45+ICH10DO it is, ADIOS!!
