Hello,

I've confronted a problem with my graphic card drivers. I need to update them, mostly to play The Sims 3, which occurs to have major crashing problems because of the graphic card and/or its drivers. (The game keeps suddenly crashing while loading or saving and also in middle of playing. I get the message "The Sims 3 has stopped working" Also, the game won't let me change any game settings, not graphics nor sound or anything.)

I tried to install the update that was offered for me after the Intel Driver Update Utility scanned my laptop. Instead of succeeding I got the error message of "...not compatible with" Also if I try to install it manually by choosing the file from my files, my system says the drivers are up to date. If I let my laptop to search for updates from my files, it says again that the update's not compatible but with a different error.

I hope someone has a solution to this because this makes playing TS3 really frustrating. I've heard the game doesn't run perfectly on Win8. Also, my game has said once or twice that it's doesn't recognize my graphic card. It's strange though because I've seen people play TS3 with HD Graphics, but of course it might be they haven't got exactly the same card.

Here is the information:

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit

System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard

System Model: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC

BIOS: F.23

Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1007U @ 1.50GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.5GHz

Memory: 8192MB RAM

Available OS Memory: 8084MB RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics

Manufacturer: Intel Corporation

Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

DAC type: Internal

Device Type: Full Device

Display Memory: 1792 MB

Dedicated Memory: 32 MB

Shared Memory: 1760 MB

Current Mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Driver File Version: 9.18.0010.3224 (English)

Driver Version: 9.18.10.3224

DDI Version: 11

Feature Levels: 11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1

Driver Model: WDDM 1.27

Vendor ID: 0x8086

Device ID: 0x0156

@milkywayy,, Your HP system has graphics drivers installed that have been customized by HP specifically for your system. If you update them with the generic Intel HD Graphics drivers, you will loose the HP customizations which may cause your system to not function the HP intended it to.

If you do want to take the risk of installing generic drivers, I would recommend creating a restore point prior to the installation.

Here are the steps you need to use to install the generic drivers.

1. Login with administrator privileges

2. Open Control Panel

3. Open Device Manager

4. Click on "Display adapters"

5. Double click "Intel HD Graphics"

6. Click on the "Driver" tab

7. Click on "Update Driver" button

8. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software"

9. Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

10. Click on "Have Disk" button

11. Click "Browse"

12. Navigate to the folder that you unzipped the Beta Intel HD Graphics driver to

13.Navigate to the Graphics sub-folder

14. Double click the igdlh64.inf or igdlh.inf file <-- depends on if you have 32 or 64 bit OS

15.Click "OK"

16. Click "Next"

Driver should now be installing.

17. If successful, click "Close"

Reboot.

Thank you for your answer, but sadly it didn't work.

I tried to do as you instructed, but when I tried to install it, I got an error saying something like "The driver chosen for the device doesn't support this version of Windows"

I tried to install https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23321 this update. I don't know if it's the right one. But I found one thing that doesn't match; my processor is Intel Celeron 1007U, but the 1007U wasn't listed in the description of the update.
