Vulkan API Support - Intel Core i5-6400T and Intel HD Graphics 530

Hi,

as far as I understood, 6th generation (Skylake) supports Vulkan API.

I own a Acer Veriton N4640G mini-pc with Intel Core i5-6400T and Intel HD Graphics 530. This is Skylake.

I wanted to test it with GPU Caps Viewer 1.32.0.

In section "Vulkan" it doesn't show any device, and starting any Vulkan demo in section "3D Demos" an error dialog appears "This demo requires a Vulkan API support".

According to Device Manager (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit), the driver version is 21.20.16.4534 from 07.10.2016 (installed by Windows Update).

What's the problem?

I installed the driver 15.40.4473, the Vulkan Run Time Libraries (version 1.0.8.0) is visible under Programs and Features.

GPU Caps Viewer 1.32.0 shows now:

But when starting in GPU Caps Viewer a Vulkan demo, it crashes with the follwoing error dialog:

Is there another way to test Vulkan, besides the GPU Caps Viewer? How to find out if it is working correctly?

And also I installed the driver 15.40.4473, Windows 10 updates to the latest driver version 21.20.16.4534 automatically.

How to avoid this? 21.20.16.4534 has no Vulkan.

I think JegX is aware of the GPUCapsViewer crash, yet you should remind him about the problem.

The link you offered to temporarily hide updates, the troubleshooter there is somehow not working.

It doesn't show the Intel HD Graphics update, it is not listed.

Actually i didn't try Microsoft's troubleshooter myself.

I tweaked my system with some PowerShell scripts before i stumbled upon the link.

In regard to the inquiry about how to test the Vulkan driver or the installation of it I just wanted to let you know that the current Plan Of Record is that Intel® is not supporting Vulkan on Windows drivers. The drivers that were made available on Developer.com are intended for Vulkan developers.

So, it is expected that some Vulkan drivers may not work for end users.

Not sure if I understand, do you say, that when I own a PC like this one (with only Intel HD Graphics 530), I cannot use Vulkan on Windows operating system?

Because Intel does not support Vulkan (on its Windows drivers)?

But, would it be still possible to use Vulkan on Windows operating system with only Intel HD Graphics built in? Does a third party provide Vulkan drivers or SDKs? What about LunarG, could I use something from there to use vulkan on my Intel Core i5-6400T with Intel HD Graphics 530?

To be honest, can't believe that Intel is not supporting such a promising graphics API.

I was even thinking to buy the Intel Skull Canyon, as it has the Intel Iris Pro 580, but even with that one I couln't use Vulkan?

The thing is that from our side according to the information we have, you might be able to use the Vulkan drivers on Windows, is just that the drivers that are available are for the PC developers to use them, meaning that they are the ones that know how to install them properly and how to test them.
