I am having a strange issue with HD4000 and rotate on Win7 64bit.

When I rotate the monitor to portrait, everything displays correctly but I lose hardware acceleration... e.g. loose Aero etc.

If I rotate back to landscape, hardware support returns. Any ideas?

i5-3320m, windows 7 64bit. Dual Monitors (both monitors with proper drivers) latest HD4000 driver 9.17.10.2875

Hi,

The big tell is the windows transparency goes on the task bar, and you loose desktop preview on the icons. I am not sure what all the features of aero is but I am pretty sure I loose all features.... all the options for Areo in the settings get greyed out. From the research I have done on other forums this indicates that all hardware Areo support is not working. I believe it switches to "software" video (because moving around windows is pretty sluggish too, with occasional screen corruption).

However, as mentioned previously when I return the screen to portrait mode, everything returns to normal, Aero instantly returns and so does the silky smooth graphics

I have some more questions if you will. The first one being, when you say the options for Aero are greyed out, are you referring to those listed under 'Visual Effects' in the Advanced System Settings section of the Control Panel?

To Check: Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced Tab -> Performance -> Check to make sure 'Aero Peek' is enabled as well as 'Use visual styles on windows and buttons'.

Additionally, check to make sure desktop preview is enabled (or confirm that it is also greyed out while rotated).

To Check: Right click the Task Bar -> Properties -> Check to make sure 'Use Aero Peek to prview the desktop' is enabled.

Another place to check, just to make sure we're checking all the bases, is the services menu. You want to make sure the item 'Themes' is Automatic/Started.

To Check: Start -> (type in search bar) services.msc -> Open it -> Scroll down the list til you see the entry for 'Themes' and verify that it is 'Automatic/Started'.

Let me know what the results are. Sorry for the delayed response!

-Nic
