I forgot to have you try out the driver that Asus* lists for your motherboard's display, so let's try that first.

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P7H55-M&hashedid=eTGMR5o4qWQAArFu ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7H55-M

8.15.10.2014 listed under VGA. Let me know if this fixes your issue first.

Thanks,

-Nic

Hi everyone/anyone

My AOC monitor suddenly failed to detect a signal from the HDMI output from my PC.

I have had to revert to using the D-Sub connection which still works ok.

I have tried another HDMI lead and another monitor and the same thing happens so the fault definitely seems to lie with the PC.

The problem arose when the computer woke after it was put into hibernation by Hauppage WIN TV 7 after it had recorded a TV broadcast last night. It may be co-incidence but I have a feeling this is related.

I have tried system restore to a point prior to the problem and cleaned and dusted inside both to no avail. I can find no obvious loose connection or fault.

Here is the graphics report.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Intel® HD Graphics (Core i3)

Report Date: 12/27/2012

Report Time[hr:mm:ss]: 18:13:6

Driver Version: 8.15.10.2202

Operating System: Windows 7 Service Pack 1(6.1.7601)

Default Language: English (United Kingdom)

DirectX* Version: 10.0

Physical Memory: 3836 MB

Minimum Graphics Memory: 128 MB

Maximum Graphics Memory: 1760 MB

Graphics Memory in Use: 32 MB

Processor: Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2

Processor Speed: 2943 MHz

Vendor ID: 8086

Device ID: 0042

Device Revision: 12

* Accelerator Information *

Accelerator in Use: Intel(R) HD Graphics

Video BIOS: 1949.0

Current Graphics Mode: 1920 by 1080

* Devices Connected to the Graphics Accelerator *

Active Monitors: 1

* Monitor *

Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor

Display Type: Analog

Gamma Value: 2.2

DDC2 Protocol: Supported

Maximum Image Size:

Horizontal: 20.08 inches

Vertical: 11.42 inches

Monitor Supported Modes:

640 by 480 (67 Hz)

640 by 480 (72 Hz)

640 by 480 (75 Hz)

640 by 480 (60 Hz)

720 by 400 (70 Hz)

800 by 600 (72 Hz)

800 by 600 (75 Hz)

800 by 600 (56 Hz)

800 by 600 (60 Hz)

832 by 624 (75 Hz)

1024 by 768 (75 Hz)

1024 by 768 (70 Hz)

1024 by 768 (60 Hz)

1280 by 1024 (60 Hz)

1280 by 960 (60 Hz)

1280 by 1024 (75 Hz)

1280 by 720 (60 Hz)

1440 by 900 (60 Hz)

1680 by 1050 (60 Hz)

1920 by 1080 (60 Hz)

Display Power Management Support:

Standby Mode: Not Supported

Suspend Mode: Not Supported

Active Off Mode: Supported

Raw EDID:

00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 05 E3 52 23 0B 05 00 00

26 15 01 03 68 33 1D 78 2A 5E A5 A2 55 4D A0 26

11 50 54 BF EF 00 D1 C0 B3 00 95 00 81 80 81 40

81 C0 01 01 01 01 02 3A 80 18 71 38 2D 40 58 2C

45 00 FD 1E 11 00 00 1E 00 00 00 FD 00 32 4C 1E

53 11 00 0A 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FC 00 69

32 33 35 32 56 68 0A 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FF

00 44 4A 4E 42 39 4A 41 30 30 31 32 39 31 00 45

* Other names and brands are the property of their respective owners. *

Hi Jeff,

The driver you have installed currently is not the latest we have for that product. Can you try using the Intel* Driver Update Utility and let it update your driver, then tell me how it goes afterwards? http://intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm http://intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm

Also, after you install the new driver, post a copy of your dxdiag here so we can take a look. (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information) Just copy and paste it here.

Thanks,

-Nic

Hello Nic, Thanks for the information.

I have followed instructions and installed up to date drivers.

Unfortunately the problem still exists

I suppose the next step is checking the BIOS? I have looked into updating (flashing - is that right?) but I am wary of delving into the BIOS on my own in case I make matters worse

I have pasted the latest report below as you suggested

Thanks again for the ongoing help. If it's a built-system, just tell me the make/model of the motherboard.

Thanks,

-Nic

Well the good news is that there have been about 4-5 BIOS updates since the version you're using. Some of them include increased CPU support. You can get version 1302 here;

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P7H55-M&hashedid=eTGMR5o4qWQAArFu ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7H55-M

The bad news is that it doesn't come in executable form, only ROM. You'll have to update it the old fashioned way with a bootable USB stick. Instructions on how to do that are here; http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=15265&mpage=1 How To Flash Your Bios From USB - Made Easy (remade)

You might consider contacting Asus* support though, and see if they can't provide better instruction, just as a precaution.

Thanks,

-Nic

I forgot to have you try out the driver that Asus* lists for your motherboard's display, so let's try that first.

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P7H55-M&hashedid=eTGMR5o4qWQAArFu ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7H55-M

8.15.10.2014 listed under VGA. Let me know if this fixes your issue first.

Thanks,

-Nic

Go ahead and give it a try. That driver is the one posted by your OEM, which, although has an earlier driver version # , may be more compatible with your system than our generic driver.

Thanks for staying with me on this. Are you using any adapters? If so, can you try without them? Do you have an additional HDMI cable you could test with to make sure it's not an issue with the cable? Are you going straight from computer -> display? Or is there something like an AV/R in between?

Thanks,

-Nic

Nic

The AOC monitor is connected with a straight through HDMI lead.

The Sharp monitor that I tried to revert to has a DVI input so I used a HDMI connector for its lead at the PC end. Both leads/monitors were working fine util the problem arose.

I haven't tried the DVI input to the AOC with the adapter (logic says there is no point)

HTH

Jeff

So you have one monitor that supports HDMI, and the other does DVI. With the HDMI monitor, you are no longer getting a signal with a straight-thru connection, and the other one, using a DVI->HDMI converter, is also not getting a signal, is that correct?

Can you provide an updated copy of your dxdiag?

PROBLEM NOW (INADVERTENTLY) SOLVED

For the info of Nic and anyone else interested.....

I noticed that the mouse pointer was disappearing off to the right hand side of the desktop.

Right clicking and selecting 'graphics options' allows you to pick 'output to'. I changed this from Digital TV to Monitor to correct the mouse issue.

Consequently opening Hauppage WinTV7 I could get sound but no picture. I closed the program, changed the desktop 'output to' option back to Digital TV, and upon opening Hauppage TV7 again the monitor immediately detected the HDMI output. The signal is now recognised from startup and everything appears to be working as it should.

I suspected from the start that the TV program had caused a glitch and so it seems. Still, now I know how to do a BIOS flash update.

You live and learn. Cheers all.
