Help please - HDMI not detected

Hi everyone/anyone

My AOC monitor suddenly failed to detect a signal from the HDMI output from my PC.

I have had to revert to using the D-Sub connection which still works ok.

I have tried another HDMI lead and another monitor and the same thing happens so the fault definitely seems to lie with the PC.

The problem arose when the computer woke after it was put into hibernation by Hauppage WIN TV 7 after it had recorded a TV broadcast last night. It may be co-incidence but I have a feeling this is related.

I have tried system restore to a point prior to the problem and cleaned and dusted inside both to no avail. I can find no obvious loose connection or fault.

Hello Diego, thanks for the reply.

In answer to your questions;

1) The brand is DinoPc.com

2) I have downloaded and reinstalled the intel graphics driver with the device manager within windows 7

3) I have looked at the BIOS and nothing seems amiss (I do not know what you mean by updating)

Hi Jeff,

The driver you have installed currently is not the latest we have for that product. Can you try using the Intel* Driver Update Utility and let it update your driver, then tell me how it goes afterwards? http://intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm http://intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm

Also, after you install the new driver, post a copy of your dxdiag here so we can take a look. (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information) Just copy and paste it here.

I have followed instructions and installed up to date drivers.

Unfortunately the problem still exists

I suppose the next step is checking the BIOS? I have looked into updating (flashing - is that right?) but I am wary of delving into the BIOS on my own in case I make matters worse

Well the good news is that there have been about 4-5 BIOS updates since the version you're using. Some of them include increased CPU support. You can get version 1302 here;

You might consider contacting Asus* support though, and see if they can't provide better instruction, just as a precaution.

Oh well, I couldn't wait any longer...

I used ASUS EZFlash and managed to update the BIOS quite painlessly (once I got it to find the update file on the USB)

No joy though, I still dont have any HD output - VGA only

I guess the motherboard itself must have a physical fault at the connector - what do you reckon?

Go ahead and give it a try. That driver is the one posted by your OEM, which, although has an earlier driver version # , may be more compatible with your system than our generic driver.

I installed the driver but no joy

After rebooting I momentarily thought it had worked but my tired eyes were kidding me there was a difference

Is there anything else I could try? I thought about reinstalling the TV card software/drivers

Thanks for staying with me on this. Are you using any adapters? If so, can you try without them? Do you have an additional HDMI cable you could test with to make sure it's not an issue with the cable? Are you going straight from computer -> display? Or is there something like an AV/R in between?

The AOC monitor is connected with a straight through HDMI lead.

The Sharp monitor that I tried to revert to has a DVI input so I used a HDMI connector for its lead at the PC end. Both leads/monitors were working fine util the problem arose.

I haven't tried the DVI input to the AOC with the adapter (logic says there is no point)

So you have one monitor that supports HDMI, and the other does DVI. With the HDMI monitor, you are no longer getting a signal with a straight-thru connection, and the other one, using a DVI->HDMI converter, is also not getting a signal, is that correct?

Can you provide an updated copy of your dxdiag? I just want to double check what we have so far.

That is correct

Each monitor works from the analogue output

After the older drivers provided by ASUS failed to remedy the fault (and left an annoying pop up window) I reinstalled the up to date Intel drivers - just so you know

PROBLEM NOW (INADVERTENTLY) SOLVED

For the info of Nic and anyone else interested.....

I noticed that the mouse pointer was disappearing off to the right hand side of the desktop.

Right clicking and selecting 'graphics options' allows you to pick 'output to'. I changed this from Digital TV to Monitor to correct the mouse issue.

Consequently opening Hauppage WinTV7 I could get sound but no picture. I closed the program, changed the desktop 'output to' option back to Digital TV, and upon opening Hauppage TV7 again the monitor immediately detected the HDMI output. The signal is now recognised from startup and everything appears to be working as it should.

I suspected from the start that the TV program had caused a glitch and so it seems. Still, now I know how to do a BIOS flash update.
