LVDS/eDP question

For the LCD/engineering experts

When I open the intel graphics control panel on my latitude e6440 notebook it shows the LCD as an embedded display port device. However, my notebook uses a LP140WH2-TLTB panel which is a 40 pin LVDS display NOT an eDP display. The port on the motherboard side is also labeled LVDS and has a 40-pin connector. I was wondering why there is a discrepancy...

Some possible explanations I've thought of:

1) the control panel is wrong and my notebook motherboard can only run LVDS

2) LVDS is being run over the eDP connection

Anyone else have any other thoughts? I was hoping to run a eDP panel on this notebook in the future but it looks like that may not be possible.

I understand you need information regarding eDP and LVDS screen port connectivity.

I regret to inform you that Intel does not handle this type of information because this type of integration depends on Dell.

As far as the processor and graphics, the following video ports are supported: eDP/DP/HDMI/VGA
