topic Old Graphics Cards? New Drivers? in Graphics

Now I don't think this was thought through with the creation of Windows 10 but what can be done with old graphics cards that haven't been supported for years? I really think a new driver should be made for all the computers that are capable of updating to Windows 10 and have an unsupported driver. That would include Vista compatible XPs since they could also get to 7 and from there up to 10.

Hi Jackiespop14,

Windows® 10 introduces a new technology requirement on how to manage video memory. Only processors from the 4th generation or later are prepared with this technology.

The technology is called: "Windows Display Driver Model 2.0"

More details in the link below:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn932171(v=vs.85).aspx https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn932171(v=vs.85).aspx

Regards,

Mike C

But why is it that NVIDIA can make Windows 10 versions of their old drivers? Not even my newer computer has a supported driver if I ever wanted to update from 8.1. That one is an Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Hi Jackiespop14,

Intel has drivers for Windows® 10 32 and 64bit in the website below:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81499/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-for-3rd-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81499/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-for-3rd-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors

If you have a laptop, it is necessary to contact your pc manufacturer and request a newer driver.

Regards,

Mike C
