Intel HD4600 strange flickering screen

Hi, my laptop (Acer Aspire v3-772g; Intel HD4600 + Nvidia GeForce 760m, Windows 7 64bit) has a flickering screen from time to time.

It only occurs in low-GPU tasks(mostly when nohing is running) and in fullHD.

If I set 1600x900 everything is fine.

PS: I've read another discussion in the forum and flashed BIOS, but it didn't work.

Any ideas?

This situation sounds like hardware problem with your laptop screen. One way to know if the built-in screen is faulty is by connecting another monitor to your computer and set it as primary screen.

If the external screen does not flicker, there you will know the LCD screen got issues, on the other hand, if you still see the screen flickering with second monitor, this means, the graphics controller is defective and you may need to contact Acer for assistance.

Also, as part of the troubleshooting process, please try updating to the latest Intel and Nvidia video drivers at:

Thanks, Allan. I will try to connect the laptop with external monitor and see what happens.

Is it possible that the graphic card's memory is downclocked too much in idle mode and it can't handle FullHD, because the screen is stable at lower resolutions?

Yes, it might be possible. Please bear in mind the graphics controller is included on your processor and this can get faulty and the only way around this matter will be to replace the processor.

Actually, only in safe mode the picture is stable..

So it must be the drivers, but I updated them 2-3 times and still no change.

I did power cycle and the problem almost seems fixed. There is flickering only 2-3 times a day. What does that mean?
